To War We March In Search of Peace

To war we march in search of peace.
Young men and women bright eyed and naïve
learning lifelong lessons from the deceased.

To spread democracy, the world we police.
Our military might the judge, jury and executioner.
To war we march in search of peace.

In foreign lands our flags hang like an altarpiece.
Us secure in our suburban sprawl never
learning lifelong lessons from the deceased.

Decade after decade our war budgets increase.
One in eight Americans live in poverty. Yet,
to war we march in search of peace.

When the will the needless violence cease?
Not until our leaders and politicians begin
learning lifelong lessons from the deceased.

Bride, groom and twenty guests blown to bits.
Nine civilian deaths for each military loss. Still
to war we march in search of peace.
Learning lifelong lessons from the deceased?
