Imaginary, An Angel Or a Friend From Beyond

Amy said it would be alright if my daughter sat up all night
Amy is her friend but there is only my daughter who has her in sight
Amy floats in the corner of her bedroom all cosy
Amy makes her feel good, a feeling that life will be rosy
She can confide all her woes, Amy listens and smiles
There is no judgement, no arguments or trials
My daughter was young, not unusual to have an imaginary friend
It's a part of childhood to play the game of lets pretend
We moved to another house when my daughter was a little older
One day we were chatting, reminising when I felt the room get colder
A chill down my spine as she confirmed for all to hear
That Amy had moved with us but sometimes she will disappear

Imaginary, an Angel or a friend from beyond
There is no doubt my daughter and Amy had a bond

Fast forward in time about 20 years
To a time filled with sadness and too many tears
Caring for my husband now dying in his bed
A time filled with heart ache and a feeling of dread
Feeding and washing him the best that I can
No longer the person he was, a shadow of a man
One day he looked over my shoulder to the corner of the room
A strange look on his face, but no panic or sense of doom
He calmly told me to take care of the girl sat just up there
“She will fall if she's not careful, is she floating on air?”
I looked to the corner, but could see nothing he described
“You know there's no-one there, don't you?” I cried
“Well I thought there was”, he said as a matter of fact
He believed what he saw, there was no sign of an act
His health went down hill quickly following this sight
But there was nothing cowardly in giving up his fight
He now knew there was more, another side to this life
One where he could be free of pain with no more strife
A calmess came over him, there were no more fears
He passed over quite peacefully, but I still shed my tears

Imaginary, an Angel or a friend from beyond
There is no doubt my husband and Amy had a bond
