Little Bird

Past happiness is what keeps me here
You wish to stay and sing along
content with your surroundings.
Yet you knew I can't accept that.
You say I'm your little bird
The bird with no cage
The cage with no latch.
How can you not know?
I am in your cage,
the cage of "I love You"s and "We'll go away together someday"s
You are my cage,
I use to be happy in it
But you had to go and lie
You had to lose my trust.
I have let you out of your cage
and if you continue to lie
I will let myself out of mine.
I am not your little bird.
I am not your pet.
I have my own set of wings.
I have my own set of talons.
Don't make me use them.

I enjoyed your poem; you sustained the metaphor/personification well, and the progression of thought was logical and appropriate. Good work.
