CALL

How many times can one stare
at the cell, hoping to induce a call?
She promised she’d ring later, but
it hasn’t chimed its siren song,
and I wait here in the dark, melting
into the couch, the stone-cold cipher
a mute testimony to indifference
and a lonely heart.
