YOUR PLACE

You asked me over to dine,
And there we sat and drank some wine.

 The atmosphere was pleasant
As I watched you cook our pheasant.

 I helped cutting the tomatoes
While you stood and mashed potatoes.

 When we finished the salad,
You sat and sang me a ballad.

 Then you finished cooking,
And I didn't even bother looking.

Then we sat down to eat,
And I could barely stand the meat.

The gravy was one big lump,
And I thought I saw something in the potatoes jump.

 I know you tried,
But the biscuits were kind of fried.

Next time you want to dine,
My place will be just fine.
