The Death of Love

The death of love,
Is less of a supernova,
Less of a cleansing flash,
And more of a dying sunset.
Drawn out, lingering,
Feebly clutching at your heart.

In the darkness you can wait,
Surely a new sunrise will come.
Not while the horizon still glows,
And storm clouds block out all the stars,
And the new moon is cloaked in oblivion.
It seems the night will never draw near.

That single day was a lifetime,
And a lifetime was not enough.
Basking in the sunlight,
Joy I long to know again,
That day ended far too quickly,
And still the night won’t come.

The death of love,
Is less of a tidal wave,
And more of a gradual wearing.
Less the wrath of nature,
And more the inescapable fall.
The crumbling of a mountain by time.

Dying a little more each minute,
Disappearing, fading out.
The tide won’t displace what was there.
Where once the mountain stood so tall,
Now the sand slips through your fingers,
And pools around your feet.

The death of love,
Is never truly graceful,
Its death throes rip your heart in twain.
You’ll bear that scar for all your days,
Waiting for another sunrise,
To come and cleave it once again.

This is a very strong expression of love's death...an erosion of the heart. Congratulations on a worthy win, Ross. // paul
