The Mask of Silence

This visage is a mask.
Yet does this mask become me?
I've forgotten who I am beneath,
Or perhaps I never knew.

Drowning in the air around me,
I beg for just one breath.
But silence is my only answer.
Silence is my only answer.

I am a crashing wave,
Crushing that which I caress.
So I breathe in poison,
And hope to kill the pain.

But it never truly dies,
It simply hides below the dirt.
Like molten magma beneath our feet,
Ready to erupt and burn.

So I just linger for the earthquake.
This marble mask gives naught away.
The echo of the wave dissolves,
And silence is my only answer.
