This Life

Where is my essence
Hidden within my soul
It cannot surface freely
It is lost beneath it's throes
It longs to sing my life song
It longs to show it's face
But I hold it closely to me
Feigning this is not the day
Always some old obstacle
Always a reason why
I will deny my spirit freedom
Until the day I die.

I will walk the road I paved
Ground out my work and toil
With sadness and melancholy
Unfilled by long hard years
Made bearable by short glimmers
Of hope and happiness
Of justice,truth and love
Holding on to good memories
Anticipate what's to come
But this life is hard and cruel
And no matter how we try
It will bind us with it's ties.
