Little Butterfly

little butterfly
fly fly away
run from these heathens
run from the day

little butterfly
of weeping tears
shield your eyes
there is so much to fear

little butterfly
my little silk friend
come with me
your heart i will mend

fly with me
i will take you away
happy together
we will forever stay

little butterfly
fragile indeed
why act tough?
in hopes of being freed?

i will be your freedom
from this vile place
light my shoulder
give me your grace

little butterfly
my best friend, indeed
i will help you out of trouble
but only if you need

oh, and @Carol, I was browsing the contest tabs the other day, but my hold up on entering is that I don't know exactly what form my poems fit into short of free verse. I know they all rhyme, but they don't rhyme in the form given under the rhyming description. instead of a-b-a-b, I just rhyme on 2 and 4? So should I enter as free verse?

Thank you all. And @ Charlotte, this one is actually the only poem I've ever written about a butterfly and the reason it was a butterfly was b/c it is about a dear friend of mine that over the years fluttered around to different social groups, one to the next, but always came back to me to coax her pain. :) She's my little butterfly.

what is it, I wonder, that makes butterflies such a popular subject for poetry? they are said to indicate the presence of departed loved ones... this one is very poignant in its simplicity...
