My Old Life

The joy of life that I once knew
Has turned to vapor like the dew.
The laughs and good times that I had
have disappeared and left me sad.

My friends suppose that I don't care
But hope has gone and left despair
I wish that I could look and see
My old life in the used to be.

And watch the sunshine clear the haze
To reveal the thrill of bygone days.
As I sit and watch life pass me by
It makes me ask the question "why?"

Is it something that I failed to do
That kept the sun from shining through?
Or did the Dealer in His rush
Deal me four cards to a flush?

Perhaps a better allegory
Could help me tell my story.

(My Dad's poem)
