leaf

rushing clear, wild, and free
I am a tumbling mountain stream
this perpetual motion I'm addicted to
from now on, I'm warning you
whatever I reach for to hold onto
I'll honor, I'll cherish, then slip hitherto
away to drift, to roam recklessly
after attempting, but, oh, so fecklessly
to stay, to settle, to build something
so shameless... I should be running
yeah, karma... it's your boyfriend, love
even if you were the prettiest dove
this energy past from life to life
in me, I fear, will always reside
why, leaf, are you lost in the wind?
blown away and never seen again
is it the season, something you can't control?
when the day turns dark, does it grow too cold
to hang onto the source of your very life?
I know.. you laugh... to think you'd ever die
leaf you've lived and never lived at all
your destiny was always and ever... to fall
dripping like a faucet down the drain
there is no struggle there is no pain
even for the life to which you've clung
on the ladder you're just a rung
for another wanderer soaring up
who'll evaporate into a stormy cloud
leaping from which, he'll cry out loud
because that clear free wild stream
is where he's always longed to be

a simply delightful poem. I enjoyed the subtle metaphorical quality of the poem as you talk of the leaf's destiny and where it always longed to be. Nicely done. enjoy your evening, Sara
