Game

Though I rest my weary head
The way is barred to slumber’s bed
Fare thee wells still left unsaid
Too long walked these roads to shed

Gate is tall and closed fast
My greatest fear I find surpassed
How could it be that this comes to pass?
I am defeated here at last

Night in sky whispers regret
Of endless travels I can’t forget
Abandoned by those still unmet
I sit and dwell on my plans, upset

“Let it go,” windy whispers spout
“Worry no more for this ‘round-a-bout”
“Tomorrow, victory!” I stand and shout
I turn, I sit and then I log out.

Song of the Used Car Salesman

“Hello, hello Good Morning!” The salesman says, (though it’s actually late
afternoon.)

(We can’t have them rushing off,) he thinks, (when I have cars to move!)

“See this little beauty…” (The side I’m leaning on anyway!)

“I’ve so many interested buyers, I’m sure, this car will sell today!”

The salesman sizes up the couple who clearly like the car.

“Zero to sixty in nothing flat!” (Though you may not get that far!)

“Previous owner? Took fine care.” (To wreck the interior in the rear!)

“Runs so smooth, purrs like a cat.” (But sticks when changing gears.)

The well learned smile, the soothing voice, the salesman sees his chance.

“Let’s step inside, we’ll work it out, my dears you can always finance!”

(The hidden costs, no don’t mind those, just the way it’s done.)

“Sure come on in, have a seat, this is when it becomes fun!”

As usual the costs are more than they think they can afford.

(Of course if we didn’t start out doubled, we salesmen would get bored!)

“Now look here it’s just a bit more, I know just how you feel.

With a car like this, I’m the one who loses. Believe me this is a great deal!”

(Yes indeed I lose this bucket of bolts I’ve had to push.

Never mind the oil leak, or the tires have turned to moosh.)

“Well… because you seem so nice I’ll take this much off too.”

(There they are the happy smiles, too bad the jokes on you!)

The salesman he waves goodbye as the car drives off the lot.

Another couple, a little wide eyed, sees the new car in its spot.

“Hello, hello! Good afternoon!”(Sunset reflecting off of the wheel.)

“I’ve another buyer for this one but… you look nice, let’s make a deal!”

On the Lonely Hill
Many come, often so sad
Side by side, still alone.

Whispers
Uncertain phrase
Breathing the shadowed thought
Wisps of fear, the uncertain mind

Busy Day

The sun rise moves too fast

To notice that at last it's set again

Where was I all that time?

  Where were you?

And when did the stars become so many, and so few?

So many days, just slip away

Unnoticed beneath the falling cell phone signals

  Honking horns

  Microwaves

And the latest celebrity gossip craze

And then a new day announces

  No more, no more

  Time slows under its' gaze

  And silences the cell phones

  The horns, microwaves and morons

Under this eye I barely breathe

So far has this night been

That I barely recognize its' face

When so many days sped by before

Poof and gone without a trace

Impossibly still
The very worst of our kind
Often lead us all.

Departure

Strange that parting hand

Held up no more for a friend

Ever broken clasp

Pauper Bow To King, King Bow To Pauper

There are times, when I the pauper, pretend that I am King.

Power uncontested have I, the master of everything.

Beloved by all my subjects who adore me from afar.

Festivals honoring this miracle me, my name etched in the stars.

Tailored cloths adorned with jewels to cover my royal hide.

A simple tear or pin prick drip and I toss them all outside.

The finest foods from around the world brought in each time I dine.

Fill the goblets of glowing gold with most luxurious wine.

My leisure is of royal command my joy by royal decree

Just think of it, a whole Kingdom thinking me High and Mighty.

A knock disturbs my nap one day in late afternoon.

Another ball in my honor at the next full moon.

Posing for another sculpture, another portrait commissioned.

This bard’s song of my good deeds, and that one’s new rendition.

My every day so busy now, my Kingdom must prepare,

Strong against our enemies, may they all beware.

I toil over strategies and rulings of my court.

Solving problems of those little people with whom I do not consort.

Into bed I fall asleep exhausted every night.

My advisers unrelentingly needing my ear at first light.

More battles to be won today new subjects fall in line.

Soon the entire world it seems might very well be mine.

The people they need food and drink, I must divide the lands.

The royal lists of would be Lords, all under my command.

Arguments continue on it seems they never end.

So many to bow before me and yet I’m without one friend.

Every decision a higher cost, nothing’s simple on this throne.

It has been near fifteen years since I had some time alone.

Slumping on my golden throne, lost in royal thought.

Sometimes when I am King I pretend that I am not.

Sounds In the Night

Ghost
whispers
softly through
forgotten halls
what memories may you welcome tonight?

Would that I could know your centuries past
beloved friend
I hear your
whispers
ghost.
