Hurricane

Fire eyed and restless gait
A bit too much of everything
Wild grin strangely big
And dances like a hurricane

He’ll shout the stories to the wind
Time won’t let you waste it
Smear happiness right in your face
Just to make you taste it

To know him is to love him
And from this you’re always crashing
You play the games he makes for you
He wins because you’re laughing

Mustaches

I see you laughing at yourself,
Mocking your own pain,
Drawing horns and mustaches
on top of your own name.

You move just like a cartoon,
Kicking up the dust behind you.
A parody of A-hole,
I want to see the play.

Hilarious in that style,
trying to look scary.
Make them smarter. Does it work?
I bet some like it anyway.

Your Enemies

Let me move the darkness from their eyes
Tease to unfold the scaffold of their lies
Ignite the strings of fear and stain
That bind their minds to guided hate

Let them see what I see
Your life as an open wound
Let them hear the sound of shattered glass
Stumble through to the profound

Let them look into their own eyes
Give them back their soul and mind
I will cradle them in their grief
As they cry in my arms at your feet

Eat Your Pain

Come, let me eat your pain
Point my mind into the vein

Storm across the bleak hot sands
Crush your scars in my bare hand

Trap your nightmares in my breast
Lay my shield against your chest

Hold my breath for whispered cries
Draw your sorrow through my eyes

Feel the gravity of grief in you
Burn it out through my sinews

Press the tears against my chin
Stroke the tension from your skin

Pant the anger from your lungs
Wake your peace with rhythmic tongue

Climb your mind up to the light
Beckon to euphoric flight

Ghosts

Crawl into
This mind through
My tears
And frightened smile.
Hit your knee
On my
Misplaced tragedies.

The damage
Settles like
Dust on
This old piano.
These rusty
Antiques
Are only ghosts.

Don’t give
Away
What they
Used to take.
This is
Your story
Keep your power.

Take the reins.
Claim your pain.
Demand
It make you stronger.
Recognize
The lies
And feed your fire.

Push into the fight,
Wild Eyes
Love who we become.

Treasure

I found a treasure in the sand
Shining like water
I loved it when it called my name
Beautiful animal

I polished it and kept it warm
Hid it in water
Let it wash away its prison
Wild and visceral

Learned to fly out of site
Lost on the water
It still visits me sometimes
Beloved criminal

Negative Space

You sought the truth
Outside the lines
In negative space
Between the light

You knew it had to
be there too
Even in darkness
Absolute

You were the smiling child
Nothing is the same
The screaming man
I still recognize your name

Mercy

Corrosion springs to violence brings
A crude malicious tune
On crowded sheet of heaven street
We cry for what is true

I fought for you and lost for you
And wait for you to find
Me holding prize with all my might
Although it’s barely mine

Truth’s a bird with broken wing
Tattered and abused
It dove for us, and died for us
Waiting for our notice

Sought, and lost, and cherished
Though loved it bites and stings
Its one blind eye held back in darkness
This all our caring brings?

I craft my prayers to tonic spells
And light them in the night
That universe may not ignore
What’s beautiful and bright

Make me a light, with wisened eye
My shadow parts the way
For mercy bring the truth to flight
And grace our fear away.

Singularity

Taped-together mystery
Closeted cacophony
Doling out your sunshine
Like it’s half time
And you’re half mine

Your countenance, it haunts my dreams
Why does kindness feel so strange?

Flip me inside out
Clear my eyes
Turn my world upside down
And pierce my amnesia

Tear the veil from my mind
Shake me out from all the lies
Melt the fear when it resists
So my will succeeds from this

Rescue me
From my own worst enemy

Paper Heaven

You watched a curse in Sunday best
Ration light while it reeked of death.
Hazed your senses, struck and lied,
Stole the color from your eyes.

Grasped, and choked, and tripped perfection.
Thought you lost your paper heaven.
Balanced on life’s ridged spine,
Love bit your handed valentine.

Painted wounds on canvas shadow,
Thrashed your voice through weaves of sorrow.
Bared your witness to the cold,
Kneeling for a light to hold.

Did you see the mystery,
Light up the ivory towers,
And your heart behold the truth unfold?
It was already ours.
