Why Did You Touch Me

Why did you touch me
I was just 9 years old
Practically a baby
Still peeing in the bed
Ponytails in my head
Even had an imaginary friend

Why did you touch me
I'm only 10 years old
Why did it have to be me
You where my protector
You were my brother
The one I depended on

Why did you touch me
I'm barley 11 years
In the dark I stain the carpet
With my legs spread apart
Now I'm afraid of the dark
Not for the reason you are

Why did you touch me
I'm 12 years old
Realizing this is wrong
Scared to be out spoken
Im spirit has now been broken
I'm to young to be this open

Why did you touch me
I'm 13
My parents didn't even know
It would kill my moms heart
Break this family apart
So I just focus on the dark

Almost 14
He didn't touch me
He’s 19
Moving out of the house
Thank you God for your grace

Hope

As I sit here in the shadows
The darkness surrounds me
Encompassing me, choking me
I can't breath in these shadows
A glimmer of light
Far in the distance
Baiting my soul
Sinking my heart
But the shadows slowly move
Covering the glimmer
I once called light
But the darkness hovers
Creating what I thought I wanted
Bleeding out what I thought I needed
But that light shinning in the distance
Wants me, almost needing me
Giving a warmth in my being
As the darkness tries to give in
But this longing I'm craving
I can't find in the dark
Cause it's blinding my sight
So cold are these shadows
As this darkness falls
I hear the light call
Ever so quietly it calls
Now I feel my heart beating
As I hear darkness screaming
Not wanting to let go of my soul
But I get the strength to break free
I told darkness to let go of me
Reminding the dark you can't hold me
The light speaking so softly
Glimmer in the distance
I hear you now
I rub my eyes to clear my vision now
Remembering the goal
Seeing the road
I almost forgot what it looked like
Cause I stood in the darkest night
And for so long it blinded my sight
But now, yes now
I'm seeing, breathing, needing
My heart is bleeding
To get a glimmer of that light

No Bed of Strawberries

I admit life ain't been
No bowl full of cherries
No bed full of sweet strawberries
It’s been a life full of disappointment
A life full of shame
One’s you thought you could
No, would never see
But you open your eyes each morning
And life is right there
Breathing every breath you do
Living in the moment
Mad at you it seems
Cause it ain’t no bed of strawberries
But you live each day
And you might want to
But you never give up
You keep on living
Cause when you were born
Your mom and dad prepared you
And showed you
Life ain’t gonna be no bed of strawberries
So I can’t do anything
But admire your courage
To keep living in life’s hell
Not knowing what tomorrow will bring
With a smile on your face
Living every waking moment to the fullest
Trying to succeed in life
In a big and ultimate way
Even though you know life ain’t no bed of strawberries
So I sit here
When times are good
And when times are bad
Wanting and trying with all I am
To be your support
Your rig from your side
The one you run to find a smile
When life ain’t no bed of strawberries
