An Egyptian Saga

The civilization of Egypt is a mystery,
But what I love the most is their incredible history,
It starts with Amun Ra, the god of sun;
Who was Khepri in the morning when he rolled in mud and had fun;
But he became Khnum the ram in the evening.
And this is just the beginning.
There was the god of wind- Shu,
Whose daughter was Nut, striped and blue,
She was the goddess of sky,
Whose love for Geb, the earth, would never die.
They had two sons, Set and Osiris,
And two daughters - Nephthys and Isis.
Osiris became the Pharaoh to solve his kingdom’s crisis,
And married his sister, Isis.
Set was the god of desert sand,
And chaos and Ra’s left hand.
Nephthys became the goddess of darkness, decay and death.
As the pharaoh’s protector, she killed his enemies with her fiery breathe;
Isis was very magical,
Who made Ra’s condition critical;
By creating Apophis a snake,
To defeat whom was not a piece of cake.
Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis
Meanwhile Nephthys and Set had a son Anubis.
Then there was Thoth who was a rage,
Among the Egyptians for being the God of knowledge.
Like Ra, there was also a god of moon,
Khonsu, who could delay the noon.
The scorpions had a goddess- Serqet,
While the vultures had Nekhbet,
The cats worshipped Bastet,
Meanwhile the lions had Sekhmet,
The frogs loved Heket,
While the hippos had Tawaret.
There were many Gods and Goddesses.
Like Gengen-Wer, Hapi, Sobek and Bes.
Of which, the dwarves loved Bes the best.
While Heket loved Onuris from the rest.
The geese loved Gengen-Wer.
And Horus became the God of war.
There are many, whom I don’t know,
Yet we feel their majestic halo.

Friend

Good friends are not easy to yield,
But sworn enemies are present in every field.
Then there are those who act as friends,
But are actually like a snake,
Who tend to bite you at every wake.
A person is a true friend,
If he knows every inch of you,
And people like that are very few,
For they love you as you are,
And try to mend you with care;
Friends are present in every life
Through your ups and downs
To help you out of grief,
And make sure you don’t revive the frown,
Not so many are lucky to have such a friend,
If you have one never leave his hand.

His Advice

My mentor said, “I wish peace,
And love could be taken on lease!
I would love to have some
As the money hunt has become troublesome.

“Life is very funny,
As it gives you a choice ,it gave me a choice,
To choose between riches and money,
Or a life were I can raise my voice over the noise.

“But out of greed I chose the first
And now rest to the brain has become a must,
And my life is slipping like grains of sand
Everything now is out of my hand.

“I wish I knew what was at stake.”
He said as I listened,
“But you my child never make this mistake.”
He said as a tear glistened.
                                                                                                       -Ananya Mallik

Life

I like the water sprinkle,
I like the stars when they twinkle,
I like the merry bells jingle,
For their sights bring a smile
On faces of sad
Or enlighten the bad mood.
I like to smile like mad,
For it stops others to brood.

I wish I could,
Stop all the bad.
And see others smile in delight,
Even in the darkness of twilight;
For it acts as light;
And makes the mood bright.

I wish I could erase sadness,
And fill the gap with tons of happiness,
But this is life,
Who loves to give you lemons,
So cut it with a knife,
And squeeze it on demons!!!

I like it when winter ends,
And gives spring a cue,
To have sadness bend,
To give rise to happiness.

Life is all about ups and downs -
And to travel throughout the towns,
To save people from frown -
And make the people laugh at the cost of being a clown.

Trust

Belief is another name for trust,
Which is from someone’s core to crust,
And will never rust,
And life considers it a must,
To have trust on the creed-
Else suspicion will breed-
That everyone is bad and has greed-
And never getting it freed.
