Black Owned Business

believe me
believe me
I don't want
to divide
I don't want
to criticize
I just want
this separation business
to subside
drown out a great
divide
separate but equal
died
fool me once
believe me
I hate lies
I don't mean
to criticize
freedom
dreams are not static
they move
revive
take LONG strides

Reprise

Winter
Out there
Again

Cold hearts
Rulers
Setting hearts
Afire

Cold out there
Night rules
The sun

And
dark
You must rest
Caged birds sing

Give

Give til it hurts
Then give some more

Take til it hurt
Don't take no more

Pain is expensive
Tears are free

Poor hurts
Riches hurt

Just keep
You'll find out

Will It Question Mark

Do not buy a new hat for my funeral.
Fill up your gas tank.
Donate that money to charity.

Instead of the, blue and white polka dot "fascinator"
with the black veil?
Get your hair done.
Or those leopard print nails
you saw in that magazine.

Do not buy a new hat for my funeral.
As I am the guest of honor, so to speak?
I insist upon it.

I'll ask you not to lay me to "rest",
in that elaborate casket
with the plush golden satin pillows.
I'm sure "rest" is a disposable sentiment
under these circumstances.

Do not buy a new hat for my funeral.
I'll skip the printing of my name on the side of the casket door.
It leads me to believe people are mingling in the afterlife with,
"Hi my is..." stickers pinned to their lapels.

What Sort of Sorcery Is This

a phone call
a text
a stroke on my cheek
the way you weep
your sarcastic guile
a cheeky smile
you melt me
unambiguously lay my fear
at your feet
that hat tossed about
your head
your cherub nature
a tarnished sweetness
assails my heart
sorcery, magic, the dark; dark arts
whatever that is
is you
whatever will be
is you

Missed

It must piss God off
when we hate
He visits us
in dark places
with harshes
Love
Measures our willingness
It must piss God off
that we fail each other
Fall asleep in the garden
scented flowery sleep
While death lays hands on ours
Melts away in frost corollas

Download My Data

No commercial interruption
In my head
Never any breaks
When I dream
Makes me want
To holler
And scream
No censorship
No computer chips
Reboots
Or
Virus Protection!!!
Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Now, Palatine

the odor is brown
home wreaks of it
its emote
sullen; somber

detriments
heavy waste
pervades

Don'T Go On

He could have stopped
at his introduction.
Come to me
at midnight.
Brushed my head
with his hand.
As I dreamed about,
our love affair.
Lifted my head
on his chest.
As he breathed,
abreast of
Our Life.
Daniel.
Daniel do go
on with your life.
Can't you see
I'm damaged.
Don't go on.

I Hope Your Pen Bleeds

I hope your pen bleeds
And ruins your tweed
Stains your skin
Gets infected
Makes you ill
And you spill your jello
Get a scuff
On those new white shoes
I hope your birthmark
Turns out to be shaped like Kalamazoo
I hope I get kooky
When I get mad
And write silly stuff
Instead of firing
A bazooka
At your Humvee
