My Cousin

They said you was sneaky
But your sweetness blinded
My judgement
They said you couldn't be trust
But my heart see through flaws
My heart got me caught up in your web
You was a dark entity up under me
Watching my every move
Studying my walk
My talk
My style
You wanted my life
You conquer it
You manipulate my presence
In twisted it for your selfish
Agenda
You drove my car
Wore my clothes
But now I know
Your intentions was my man
He fell for your cobra spirit
You wrap around his temptation
In took it home base
With your upper hand
He lost the battle with his weakness
You both made a mockery of me
You two got a thrill off my hurt
My pain
My love I had for you two
Had the world thinking I'm paranoid
I'm crazy
Praying my hurt don't turn into hate
Now the tables turn
You caught some of his blows
You lost grip on your life
You had put your trust on sweet nothings
After you witness my tears in pain
Through the years
He incarcerated drowning in misery
Waiting for his judgement
You self medicating your pain away
I forgive you both
My cousin

Complicated Soulmate

We locked eyes
You stared into my soul
We exchange numbers

Wild nights
Pimp caddy turned out
Humid steamy nights

Memorize on you
My love screaming
Inside of me

Years later still,
Still come to as one
Your soul give me a rush

Lovers in the parking lot
Chemistry unexplainable
Can't get over you

Oxtails

often cooked varied styles
                                     one soul-food dish joyed
                                       over large gatherings,
                                      on holidays choose first
                                        ordinary love fest
                                        originate in Spain
                                    oven baked are the best!

Co-Dependent Love

Looking out the window
The skies look gloomy
Feeling empty inside
Screaming out in silence
Unhappy with this companion
Felt like I bare you in this world
Your presence feel like labor pains
Leaning on me, I need an epidural shot
Your complaining bring another contraction
Your conversation burn a hole in thoughts
Depending on me make me feel wanted
But, it's too late you think I'm your mother
You no longer look at me as your lady
I let this codependency go on to long
Pray you don't walk out on me
depend on me

From Healthy To Dialysis

Life was beautiful
Typical teenager
Junior year 2003
Living life’

Walking the halls
Feeling confident
One morning
Walking up the stairs
Lost my breath
Fighting for air

Went to the clinic
Test said negative
Wish it would’ve been positive
Second opinion
UTI
I would’ve accepted that

Day before thanksgiving
Wasn’t feeling thankful
My body was dying
Drowning in its toxins
I woke to a blurry worry

I could hear
But my vision vanish
I couldn’t breathe
Kept my cool
Saving my mama
Heartbreak

Went back to bed
Praying this a dream
This nightmare go away
I knew I was dying
I feared the worst

Sleeping to my death
Which was hours away
My lifeless body shutting down
Midnight follow me
Dogs sense death
She waited for me
By the bathroom

My fears came true
Sounds of the water
No flow
No drop
My world stop

Mama push me to get ready
It took me hour to dress
I had to follow everyone voice
I realize I was really blind
Mama kept asking
Look at her
Had to fight to find her
I finally did

Doctor hit me with a blow
A blow I couldn’t take
She was in tears
She couldn’t get the words out
End Stage Renal Failure
E
S
R
D

I could’ve died a thousand deaths
No words could explain my pain
How did I end up here
16 years old
Felt hopeless
Denial angry
Felt angry
Felt robbed
Robbed of my dreams
Air force
Kids
Family

My Fondest Memory

Missing my childhood
playing games in the streets with friends
sip water from hose

Sneaking to the store
Buy junk food before dinner
get in big trouble

Walking far with friends
ride the bike far to the beach
beat the street lights home

Rushing home from school
erase the teacher message
before mom get home

My first childhood crush
was a player broke my heart
gave me my first kiss

Jolly Christmas

A
                                                      Jolly,
                                                     Candy
                                                     Canes,
                                                   Hanging,
                                                From the tree
                                            Singing Christmas
                                         Songs around the tree
                                    Joy, laughter, and love filled,
In the room, the scent of pine flow
Through the air like a peaceful feeling,
That puts everyone in this wonderful mood
Smell of cookies coming from the oven as the kids,
Are excited to leave them out for Santa Claus and his helpers
The feeling of love in the room like God sent his angels to bless the room
                                            With his anointing,
                                            The lights flashing
                                            Children amazed
                                            At the table filled
                                            With soulful food
                                            Made with love
                                            Snowflakes flow
                                            Peaceful vibes
                                            Felted from one
                                            Another, kisses
                                            Hugs and tears,
                                            Spreading around,
                                            The room Jolly
                                            Tears of joy
