Horses

Competition day had arrived,
His muzzle twitched with anticipation
And in relation my feet tingled in a way like never before.
For the first time, we both doubted ourselves

But fear not, we must carry on
As I plaited his forelock in preparation
I took the time to appreciate how flat his withers was
How typically racehorse he was
I stroked his fetlock as I knew this could be it.

His hooves were oiled and shiny as ever
Ready for anything
And the 3 link that he loved
Made no difference in poll pressure
As we bolt across the course, aiming to be the best

“I trust you, boy”
As if to tell him that even though, 2 years ago when he was deemed
A mess with dodgy hocks and lumpy coronets
Who was a waste
He could do this, to prove them wrong and beat the best
Become the best

Misconception

You see it’s complicated.
Just because his bones aren’t crumbling before your eyes,
And his organs are still vaguely breathing,
Well appear to be intact.
It must mean he’s fine, normal in fact.

Just because his skin isn’t blue and grey all over,
And his head isn’t spinning,
The voices still get to him.
Deep down beyond all the self-motivation talks
He still struggles to admit he’s wrong

Just because he can’t put himself through this for much longer,
the toil and torment you see in the news,
In front of your deluded eyes and mind,
this doesn’t reveal,
the secrets to your fogged mind.

You see, he’s not the stereotype, the typical
That society has taught you to look out for
And sympathize.
You’ve been hypnotized to call out
“He’s just attention seeking”
When in actual fact
The cuts on his arms, are symbols of what’s wrong with the world.

You can’t see his ribs piercing though his dead, flimsy skin
The only visible damage is
the blood stains on the floor
and the bloody razor blade
shining under the expectations of his family

You can’t hear his brain and body,
Working together, in conjunction,
Like a duet,
To slowly kill him off from this cruel world,
This cruel, judgmental society.
That we are forced to proceed to
This agenda of hatred
To leave no trace, of his sorry existence
To you he’s fine.
This is his normal.

War World

For the first time, she realised life,
What it’s all about, really.
That sinners are hailed as heroes
Whilst angels are kicked to the curb
Under all the rubble,
From the war torn towns
Dropped on our conscience

It’s one rule for all,
Until wealth and power
Intimidate the helpless and fearful
Which rises the debate

Is the capitalist world we once wished for?
Do we actually want to live here?
On a planet where we’ve been fed the spew
From the power above us.

Would socialism be a war or a peace.
A piece of mind that we’ll never be accustomed to.
We’ll always live in fear until
One day,
The brave will become the bravest.

The bravest. The ones we rely on
To be strong enough to rip
The halos from the demons
And crown the heroes of the war we fight
For surviving this long
Keeping us alive for just one more day
Until maybe not disease or wealth

But maybe the helpless
Will become the helpful
The fearful, the fearless
And tell us what we never thought we’d hear.
No one knows.

Pixelated World

As she stands and wonders to herself,
Was there a time
When you could look across the land and see blue skies
And clear oceans
Of which a million species inhabited before
The ancestors of technology
Used it for pixelated dreams
Of another world unaccusable of us.

All she needed was a dream
A dream that could cut through her heart like a key
A key tying her down to all her roots
Not letting her leave behind the wreck that is us

How can the fire in our bellies be extinguished?
With the words of a million liars
Like the simpler times before this
Before the democracy
And discrimination
When our views were respected
Not only as women but as humans
With a mind and point
A sense of being

You see, a pixelated world is what we live in
Everything about beauty and standards
No originality or conquest
Where nature was respected not repented

They predicted this
Before time itself
Before we blocked out our priorities…
The worlds priorities
We can’t justify this

No

Not now or ever
Look what we’ve done
Put aside the hatred and discrimination
And look at the war zone we created
Whilst trying to prevent such atrocities

Atrocities that can never be undone
Not by us
Or the pixelated dreams
