I Am the Cold

There are few who purposely push my buttons.
A couple who know exactly how to get under my skin.
Some who push me around,
Kick me down,
Just to laugh when I can't get back up.
My smile is a dam,
My eyes thin glass panes.
My demeanor is calm,
Hiding above the surface of a raging storm,
Pulsing behind my kind face.
Don't push me too far,
Dig too far,
Push, kick, or shove too far.
Because the dam has fallen in,
The glass pane is shattered,
Prepare to meet the icy sea up ahead.
My smile is a pit of black snakes,
My eyes are a lake chilled over,
The bones and carcasses of those who drowned in them before, left behind.
Chills run up and down your spine,
Fear at its finest.
Suddenly you are aware of your pounding heart.
Your breath deepens,
Your pulse quickens,
You know you have stepped over a boundary,
The point of no return.
The warmth of the sun is clouded.
Nothing can save you now.
I am the snow.
I am the ice.
I am the cold.
