What Doth Yonder Carry

what doth yonder carry?

There was a time
When God reigned supreme
I covered myself
and kept my fasts
and in prayers deep
begged for the life that lasts... forever
life after this great orb God made
Life in heaven, near my creator

And then one morning
My mind too calm, too clear

Nothing made sense anymore, at all

and yet
Nothing made more sense

I looked at the past
a lesson well learnt
I had spent my youth
in pursuit
of yonder and beyond

and today
biking by
the busy bylanes of Brooklyn
reminding myself of my humble place
on the small blue dot that floats in space
a miniscule traveler on a miniscule grain in a mega universe

I let my guard down
to sigh
and smile
and realize

I still have no answer

what doth yonder carry?
Is it the picture perfect utopia
that religions rave about?
Is it another life on this planet
another chance to set things right?

Or are these myths
and frail figments born
of the desperate craving for immortality
for another chance
yet another tryst
to be blessed with the bliss
of being alive and young
once more?

that desperate craving
that each mortal shares
were those heavens and reincarnations born of?
and yet
who knows for sure
what doth yonder carry?
