Memories

This is a story of a child and her mother,
About love that is irreplaceable like no other,
The child always does numerous mischiefs to ponder,
But the love of the mother would never waver.

The child is me if you ever want to know,
This is a story of me and my mother as I grow,
A story of me and my hero,
Mom, you filled me with a lot of things when I was zero.

I was a cry baby when I was three,
I would pretend to cry so that you would be angry,
And my sister would have been ready to flee,
Behind the mango tree while cursing at me.

When I was thirteen, you set me free,
Into a boarding school that I never agree,
Nobody knew how sad I was to be apart from my family,
But I didn’t complain so that you didn’t worry.

Three years after, I asked to change school,
I know you were just acting cool,
But you agreed to this wish that is a fool,
As atonement, I just have to follow your rule.

You taught me to sew when I worked as a part timer,
For me, you are always the best teacher,
You kept on being patient when I was so blur,
When I want to give up, you play the cheer leader.

Remember the first cake that I wanted to bake?
Your precious kitchen, you stake,
The result was a burnt cake,
But you said it’s okay to make a mistake.

The happiest moment was during the eid,
I would help you around like a loyal maid,
Looking at your loving smile, the tiredness was paid,
Not to forget, the fresh scent of glade.

We all know that rainbow doesn’t last long,
So does the happiness that we belonged,
The decision to start dialysis was totally wrong,
But for us, you tried to be strong.

If I knew, that morning was the last morning I have with you,
I would have said multiple thank you,
For the things that you have gone through,
To put me out of feeling blue.

5.45 a.m. you asked me for a glass of orange,
I thought it was strange,
Had I known that it was a hint of a horrid change,
That caused me to feel estranged.

Some people say ‘home is where your mother is’,
But for me, ‘home’ no longer exist,
The only things left are memories,
That I can only afford to reminisce.

I had once wished to lose my memories,
Because these memories increase my mental injuries,
But I think forgetting these memories wouldn’t cause the pain to cease,
Hence I keep it and not even one memory misses.

Now that you are gone,
This child is left forlorn,
Once in a while she mourns,
For her mother whom she was born.
