Nothing

No one crowds the empty streets wandering aimlessly from window to window

looking at nothing in particular.

No one is unaware that something is missing.

No one feels nothing but doesn’t know what that means because

no one feels anything anymore and Nothing can’t be compared to something if that something doesn’t exist in no one’s world.

No one listens to music without lyrics or beat or melody and doesn’t notice

that it really isn’t music at all.

No one talks to anyone because there’s no point in talking when there are no questions to ask and no answers to ponder, so no one’s music is truly the sound of silence.

No one masters the art of Nothing and doing Nothing and feeling Nothing and being Nothing.

No one looks at a grey canvas amidst all the other grey paintings and perfectly square grey sculptures and believes that it reflects all that art has to offer because nothing else is

on display in No one’s world.

No one reads the poem over and over because it’s really just a hodgepodge of nothings that mean nothing in the grand scheme of Everything.

Who Are You

who are you to say that I’m unacceptable

who are you, who are you

to say that i am one of the untouchable variety

forced to endure solitude

while you

sit on your pedestal of empty words

void of meaning.

even so, you look down

as if i should be the one with a frown on my face

who are you, who are you

to say that i cannot be myself

that i should not feel safe in my own home

who are you, who are you

masked creature that sings sweetly of equality and love and peace and kindness

when those beneath you learn that to live is to suffer

who are you

to tell me that my own beliefs are invalid just because of who i am.

who i am is not something for you to negotiate or contemplate

i am who i am but who are you

who are you

who are you to tell me that I am worthless

i am a text

but who are you

ask yourself because i have my own definition of you,

that i am aware enough to know,

isn’t the Truth

not when you spin lies and try to convince me of their legitimacy

not when you treat me with unfairness but preach as if you know what the word fair means

you do not, i assure you

so who are you

you are one of a kind, but part of a larger entity

an entity that labels people like me

people that just want to find their place, a nook or cranny amidst suffocating animosity.

i’ll sit and i’ll cry but at least i won’t lie

to your face when i tell you that i am fine

words can change lives but yours won’t change mine in the way that you’d like

i use you, i use you, i use you.

who are you to me?

a means of progress.
