Latonia Sears Poem
Remember back when black people were friends because we only
had each other then
Back when we wore butterfly collar shirts platform shoes and mini skirts
when the press and curl was in and wearing a afro was the trend
When Malcolm was necessary and everything necessary was Malcolm
when everything was on layaway and layaway was on time
When Motown was the sound and the Temptations, Smokey and Stevie
were laying it down
When we had hoola hoops and hopscotch with plenty of double dutch
on the block
When black families were united and believed in black power and never
tried to hide it
When the street lights came on and that told you it was time to get home
When all black people had soul because that was something know one
could control
Oh I wish those days would comeback again so I composed this rhyme
to take me back to then

Latonia Sears Poem
I would like to challenge the world to have one day of peace
Something this great land of ours really and truly needs
For one day of peace can we show each other a little human kindness
Just leave all the bad memories behind us as we say a prayer in silence
For one day of peace can we say no to anger and hello to love for 24 hours
Just think with our hearts instead of always using our guns
For one day of peace can we truly be honest not as Americans or politicians
Just one single person on this earth that can see what the problem is
For one day of peace can you imagine such a enormous accomplishment to only
show each other love instead of sin and violence
For one day of peace can we think of togetherness instead of so much separation
be more humanitarian and help heal this nation
For one day of peace are we willing to ignore hatred and embrace human acceptance
We have one chance at life and I'd rather enjoy it than spend the rest of my life trying to
forget it

Latonia Sears Poem
Most people can see you without really knowing what is on your mind
making comments about the shoes you wear because they are worn
and leaning to the side
Laughing saying how they would not be caught wearing raggedy shoes
such as these although for you it is a blessing for you to have these
shoes on your feet
For everyone can't wear these shoes they are yours and fit you just right
there appearance should be be the last thing on someone's mind while you have
these shoes in your sight
Just to walk in someone else's shoes is extraordinary in it self history confirms
that so many have tried and ultimately have failed
In these shoes you can walk life's path through someone else's eyes it is not
an easy task to see another's hopes and dreams there beginnings and endings and
how they paid the price
Everyone's shoes have walked a different path some have strolled the red carpet while
others have walked through fire and glass to their future and from their past
Although to each it was never a bother like Jesus Christ the shoes he wore made him
destined to walk on water because he was the son of our most gracious father
All I'm saying is shoes ate shoes no matter what style or size it is the feet in the shoes
that makes a difference even when they are tired and ugly to the eye
So next time just stop that person and ask them where those shoes have taken them
in life and if you actually stop and talk to them you can see their whole life story from
the expression in their eyes

Latonia Sears Poem
If I were a poem would I be sonnet or a rhyme or just a
metaphoric solution to the feelings that have settled
in my soul
Will I stand for peace and love or uncertainty and confusion
will my words mean something more than the regular or usual
Will a pair of wondering eyes read me and say that was very
profound or will they utter the words man I sure like the way
that sounds
