Poetry Forgotten

Their memories are trapped
Between these walls of pale white
And these halls that echo
With the voices of children,
Who were forgotten by even Time himself.
Their dreams are caught,
Between their own bounds of sanity and insanity.
Between the ideas they were forced to conform to.
Their lives were spent in this cage, this hospital,
This so called Protector of the People.
But who was it really protecting?
Was it keeping the children inside safe from the outside world?
Or was it locking them away
In a feeble attempt to erase
This tainted mark that hung heavily over the population?
Mocking these poor children as they wasted away,
Their voices slowly stolen,
Their poetry forgotten?
I step inside this hollow cage,
Knowing I’ll never come out,
My voice,
My thoughts,
My memories,
Waning away, along with the foundation of this Protector,
This Savior,
This Angel that mocks me.
I step inside,
And exhale, my final words snatched away
By the lost children,
Who never got to have words of their own.
