Alone At the Holocaust Museum

ALONE AT THE HOLOCAUST MUSEUM

rose early in the morning,
indulged in a lovely quiche lorraine,
ventured out

                        alone.

silence has a sound of its own.

yes, there was the film, my first exposure -

Kristallnacht – the night of broken glass

the sterile space…

alone, i enter the “gas chamber” -
no one’s there, no screaming naked bodies.
the only fear is in my mind – i
must get out, feeling claustrophobic.

exiting and to my right, a setup -
a dummy behind a machine gun
my pulse quickens, throat is dry.

then to my left: hair cuttings, glasses, teeth, clothing -

my eyes hurt as i read – many children were thrown
                                                  into the ovens A L I V E.

the horror constricts my brain. horrible to imagine
one crazed serial murderer and this was an entire country.

cruelty has sharp claws, hidden behind breath and flesh
gifted by God. monsters have lovely hair, straight teeth,
families preparing dinner, friends cheering with

CLINKING CRYSTAL.

going home, they smile, swing loved ones around,
kiss their merry cheeks,

and they R E E K with death.

Come Into My House Lord

For Brother Jacob, our fellow poet,
who lives his life
real and true to the call of God:

COME INTO MY HOUSE LORD

Come into my house Lord.
Anoint my house with peace.
Adorn it with jewels of love.
May laughter ring from its walls.
     Bring children that call -
     that call upon the name
     of the living God.

     Break the tablets of sin.
Resurrect those ears and chins.
May light flow back into young eyes.
Let them not sleep with unholy light.
May their conversation be
     holy and hopeful.
     May it spread
like a passionate fire until the end,
for these children are yours;
raised for such a time as this.

Lord, let parents and grandparents
rest on your word, like a comfy-soft pillow.
May they primp and fluff the word of God,
reviving it, making it fresh
     for those little ears
     and teenagers
     and young adults.

Come into my house, Lord.
Let your footsteps be found.
Let every room be blessed
with your oil of gladness.
Overflowing…overflowing -
flood of goodness, your lovingkindness.

Break the habit of sin.
Throw it into the pit.
Raise your arms.
     Wait for it!
     Wait for it!
Blessings that can’t be contained.
They far outweigh the gods of yesterday.

Morning Light

O the warmth and the depth of the sun, o’er us, for the yellows and reds, as they throw their shine on the maples and oaks and the pines, caress of the pale and ebon - all the blossoms stress. And the flit of the robins, and rest on boughs, as they lift up our spirits in singsong light. We’ve a glimpse of once-paradise-sourced delight. The long rays of God’s arms - they lean down to rouse. Each new day, flows our way, and it fits like glove, and we stretch out our arms like a child, and smile, as we’re wrapped in the Dayspring’s colors and style. All our senses awake, as God pours out love. 8/23/2022

Asp of Grief

ASP OF GRIEF She buries her head upon this asp of grief — soft with reptilian fangs, hard with poison. Her covetous husband lies upon the Nile’s reef. She holds her abdomen in her arms - his son. with lunar belly... the shape of her husband’s seed ...a fateful eclipse The pit with its bone-chilling cold, hisses with hatchlings, dreaming of spoiled seeds and seas with a vortex, coiling around ships. A queen’s lips burn red, yearning for her king. An abandoned wreck will not lay eyes upon his baby’s sex. insanity’s kiss... eyes burn with crimson lipstick ...unrepentant flames She plays with sticks and desire, enticing asps of despair — gorges with vampiric teeth. She embraces their mock and likewise teases, beckons and pleads for death so fair. Like a breeze about her ankles snakes snip her royal purple frock. entanglement frays... dyed purple threads unravel ...rigor mortis strikes His candle ensign in the dark, a resurrected hero of vanity. The light flickers with feet in the sand, footprints at lover’s leap. His profile in death’s shadow, his purple passion of insanity — laughter litters this carnivorous cave where ashes of dust heap. alluring ashes... Salome’s serpentine dance ...Cleopatra’s veils The sound of a knife being sharpened, his sword with venom drawn, leaps upon his self-righteous chest, a single blade’s deep penetration. No handsomer lover, thighs of steel, tanned and craven brawn. He lost his rapturous beauty bright and fleeting, weeds of veneration. bilious-amber mixes with his crimson blade — a suicide pact 4/28/2018

Give Me Liberty Or Death

pink and sparkles spout above liberty statue cloud tauts happiness fireworks all around applaud hands clap on soil and sea the swirl of nations, a landing party of dreams... but some from afar drag chains as if dead, rowing amidst the cotton the white plant—has thorns— placed on Jesus saving crown. sowed on plantations — a reaping of civil war continues today. plumes of red and black fume over the green lady; a gift from the past. stripes upon the flag’s backside. hands raised beg for forgiveness 7/3/2020 STRAND COMPLETELY NEW(4)any theme any form Poetry Contest
John 19:1-3 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they struck them in the face.

The Doll

THE DOLL With Mona Lisa wiles, unfurled. Her porcelain lips with tight grip. A button dress antique and pearled.
Her glass eyed threat. Unnerving doll — she’s quite a trip. A poignant face, pompadour curls. Her long stem rose replaces whip? Alien smile out of this world — impenetrable craftsmanship. I broke in pieces as she hurled
her glass eyed threat.

Remember the Ovens

Cuckoos hushed, rambling vines and plight.
Hordes of birch, beech, pine, spruce and oak.
Choke of darkness, forcing midnight.
Wax and breadcrumbs children-ditched folks.

Hordes of birch, beech, pine, spruce and oak.
Hansel and Gretel, frightened, twitch
Wax and breadcrumbs. Children-ditched folks -
Woodcutter built house for a witch.

Hansel and Gretel, frightened twitch
Of laced-up fingers spot the
Woodcutter-built-house for a witch.
Tasty-sweet, they eat what they see.

Of laced-up fingers, spot the
Craving, clinging to witch’s house.
Tasty-sweet, they eat what they see.
An hungry old woman they rouse.

Craving, clinging to witch’s house,
Sticky-mess invited in by
An hungry old woman. They rouse
Her wrinkles and warts. The bat lies.

Sticky-mess invited in by
Deception. It’s not a love-in.
Her wrinkles and warts - The bat lies
In wait to bake in the oven.

Deception. It’s not a love-in
Handing the pan, asking succour.
Why wait to bake in the oven?!
Tries to fool girl. Wants to bake her.

Handing the pan, asking succour.
In 1940’s, the earthface fell pale.
Tries to fool girl. Wants to bake her.
Grimm’s prophecy no fairytale.

In 1940’s, the earthface fell pale,
Choke of darkness, forcing midnight.
Grimm’s prophecy no fairytale.
Cuckoos hushed, rambling vines and plight.

Falling From the Heights

FALLING FROM THE HEIGHTS Who knew the road would fill with gravel’s pain? My feet, sore bare, beneath the calloused peat. The sun beat hard, no friend the serpent’s bane. Fate’s sweat does drip, with chains, the dark complete. The street does twist and wretch, the cliffs enormous. The vertiginous heights of panic feeze. Unpaid regret, ill storm felt ginormous. Unholiness does creep upon my knees. Good pleasure pled, my youth to harken please, whilst time did serve the stench of gargoyled feet. And greening eyes would steal the gold, and seize the king’s pure daughter, then his regal seat. The plummet ferocious does tear my skin. The dirgelike wind does moan and fleece my sin. 3/8/2018
bane - woe, curse, destruction feeze - a state of alarm or excitement

God Sees the Courageous At Work

Strangers are attacking me;
ruthless men seek my life—
men without regard for God. Selah

Psalm 54:3

GOD SEES THE COURAGEOUS AT WORK

Wild-eyed disregard for God —
The mocking tone, the spittoon.

The leering eyes —
they’re tiger’s eyes.

They plop near the weights —
the courageous snakes, and

throw balls of cannon smoke.
They hope that we will choke.

The courageous throw acid
in a virgin’s angelic face.

The courageous pounds their rusted
nails into fragile wrists and ankle saints —

these innocents whose haloed guardian’s
see the illuminated face of almighty God.

The courageous divide fetus parts,
roll them like dice, put them on display.

The courageous pillage, rape and sodomize
thinking if there’s a God, he will see it as sport.

They drink deeply the heart blood and soul
but none can escape the Ancient of Days.

Life is a pit, a mere hole for the courageous
to drown. They’ve looked for a fiery dragon

And he’s been found, awaiting the demise
of as many curs-ed petals he can find.

Selah…
if only for a moment the dead blinked,

the light of day might have saved their hide.

The brokenhearted will feast at the King’s table.
with no need to fear when evil is deceased.
