The Fear We Wish We Had

We were once all young,
We once didn’t care,
It did not matter if they did stare;
But that song has been sung.

We were told when we got older, all our fears would shrink,
But now we’re insecure,
And we care what people think.
Farewell, that childish freedom.

We speak of being free of fear,
We speak like all we need is near,
But we overlook the fear we found,
When losing all our fears;

That nagging insecurity we find,
And we all do,
While mourning the loss of conquerable fears.
