Kaia Mcdaniel Poem
The whiteman doesn’t understand
He doesn’t understand
the turmoil
the heartbreak
the pain
He does what he wants with no care
for the black man he calls slave
He needs to learn to understand
to understand the turmoil
the heartbreak
the pain
We can flee from the clutches
of the white man we call master
but we can never flee
from the everlasting pain
of the names he calls us
the heartbreak he causes us
and the lifetime he stole
He simply doesn’t understand

Kaia Mcdaniel Poem
I am a kitten looking to the sky
Blue butterflies are everywhere
I roll in the green grass
Peaceful as those butterflies
Blue butterflies are everywhere
I frolic with joy in this field
Peaceful as those butterflies
I am amazed by their beauty
I frolic with joy in this field
Staring at the wondrous wings
I am amazed by their beauty
Joy is their gift to me
Staring at the wondrous wings
I roll in the green grass
Joy is their gift to me
I am a kitten looking to the sky
