Bayou Goodnight

With the song of the crickets and ballet of fireflies,
the Louisiana moon has nestled in the sky.
"Bonsoir, mon amour", she whispers so sweet
while watching from above as we drift off to sleep.

Louisiana Branches

Strong like the waves that crash upon the shore
Deep as the river beneath a tossing barge
Long like the nights as we wait out the storms
And true as the love we have for the babes in our arms

The spirit of a warrior standing ready in his armor
The faith of a Pastor while comforting congregation members
The eyes of a mother that chooses to see only hope
And the strength of a father protecting his family's home

Louisiana's children, up until the end---
Prove over and over that our Faith won't be bent
We've adapted and created our ways of living
Picking up the pieces when Mother Nature comes at us again

We hurt when she hurts and bare the brunt
Of the forces she spews and the courses she runs
Her anger we feel in the gusts of wind
Her joy we receive during those summer's that won't end
Bliss she shows us on the perfect spring days
Just as we catch her tears when she lets go the rain
She's made our skin tough through the breath she shares
Humid and dense in our heavy air

Just as she can let go the wrath of a jilted Queen
We use the lessons she's instilled in us to conquer defeat
She may send down the rains and conjure lightening to match
And we may hear her anger in her thunderous clap
She may push through a wind to show us once more
And let loose all her might with a powerful storm

But she forgets, Mother Nature, you see
That her past runs through you and it runs through me
A direct line has been made, like the Mississippi to the Gulf
Her ways have led us to know just what we're made of
For through the years and down the lines
Cajun Country's people have risen each time
Our defenses may be a direct result of her hands
But our spirit we derive from our place on this land
And Mother Nature may be an ever present influence
But we're children of Louisiana and that means we'll always come through it

Rooted in this soil, in the heritage it holds
Grateful and honored for the blessings we've been bestowed
Generations as far back as one could see
Our ties are just as bound as these ancient Cypress trees

Rise up Louisiana with the dawning of new light
May your pain be healed and hearts filled with might
And as the last bit of dew dries up with the sun
Feel the embrace of your family in this rooted home you stem from

Forces of Nature

I'll fall upon you like the darkness of night
With a thunderous spirit as you observe my jolting might
Bringing a rain that carries a peace
Washing away the heartache and allowing its release

You'll feel my presence like the flood waters rising
Like a gust through the treetops and a flash of lightning
Powerful and frightening while beautiful and unexpected
You won't see me coming yet you'll be glad to have witnessed

I'll travel ever so quietly by the way of the eye
Lingering softly in the storm clouds passing by
As you wait out the storm and prepare for the worst
I'll hit you with with relief but fear you'll feel first

Once all is done and the sun comes out
I will be there in the winds that die down
You'll see me there in the violet ray of a rainbow
Igniting a warmth as the calm envelopes you

I do not have a side; I am neither good or bad
I cannot be subdued nor detoured from my path
I am a force who receives her power from the Earth
I have grown in the bayou nights and Louisiana dirt

A soul enriched by the truest of means
Growing stronger each day; taking flight by her dreams
Unstoppable, untamable, not frightened in the least
This storm that I am riding, it flows through my veins

When the fury of a category 5 is what lies in your soul
An E7 would be the only match to which she would fold
The two, together, raging through the world
Two souls captivated by the strength and weakness that the other holds

No need to wait for me, for you cannot predict
From which way or by which night your life I will hit
Just as I will not wait or watch for you in the skies
For you will too will rush upon me in the least expected of times
Casting an unrelentless love upon me as our forces combine
Two hearts created through life's storms and two souls intertwined

Tiny Whispers

3:00am, the world's fast asleep
But I hear the sound of tiny feet
They're racing through the house and rushing my way
It matters not that I've had the longest day
With a leap and a pounce she makes her presence known
Then snuggles up close for me to hold
The storm outside has brought her out of her innocent slumber
The flashes of lightening and clashes of thunder
To be in my arms is her security and peace
How could she possibly know that she's actually my relief?
For no matter the grief that the world throws my way
This sweet little thing is my saving Grace
I rock her through the storm knowing she'll quickly fall back to sleep
Because in any moment of darkness family is all we truly need
As her eyes grow heavy and her worries grow light
Just holding her in my arms shows me all I've done right
For there is no greater joy or delight in this world
Than hearing "I Love You Mommy" being whispered by your precious little girl

Schooled

This saying they have, it's as old as time
Used for decades in many a rhyme
A simple statement, it holds an ancient truth
A teaching, a moral obligation to be instilled during youth
Though many forget it and thus do harm
Its meaning holds true and still carries on
Something that opens the heart and nourishes the soul
A lesson thrown upon me at seven years old
A motto, a foundation of genuine love
The compassion I longed for is what I grew to be made of
Something I clung to the moment I was forced to see
How cruel the world is for the different, for people like me
For twenty four years I've abided it's call
In the corner of those who needed it to help them walk tall
Today it holds more significance than ever
It seeks to comfort me because I have Tourette's and because of this parchment bound by leather
Nesting in my empathy and giving me strength
Guiding my pen and steadying my way
An author, a poet ticcing steady with the clock
This teaching of yesteryear remains my rock
For myself and for art, for all the futures at steak
Who would've thought that to them all it'd now relate?
This verse, this testament that I pray we would all live by
"Never Judge a Book by Its Cover "...
Simply...be kind!

Rock Bottom

We all have a past, the place we come from
All housing regrets and things we should've done
Our lives we've lived, some better that others
And have had along the way both triumphs and shutters
My tale of woe is mine and mine alone
Just as you are the sole keeper of your own
Addiction, Abuse, Illness or Self-Destruction
Grief or Longing, Loss of Faith or Repercussion
The ways that the world decides to come at us
Matter very little when in yourself you learn to trust
There are the strong who make their way out
Without hesitation and without any doubts
But the strongest are those who suffer the most
And fight for tomorrow still with a future unknown
Rock Bottome hit the hardest not by circumstance
But by the impacts of state-of-mind and what it left in my hands
The bad situation had nothing on that
The places my mind wandered and where my heart was at
So if state-of-mind was going to be my undoing
Then of course to turn it would mean my own life I'd be saving
My Rock Bottom came in the form of a lost soul
The turn around coming as finding something to grab hold
The future! A better and brighter life! was my beacon in the night
For myself and my children and of course to spite
All the negativity, all the wrongs of the past
To show the world I was here for a reason and to grow happiness that'd last
And so I came out of it on the other side
Sticking it to Rock Bottom with a new and improved STATE-OF-MIND!!!

The Beauty of Tomorrows

A choice was made in search of better days
The impact of which would redeem her Grace
The light that had left and caused her distress
had alas returned to put her to the test

An easy road it would not be
But she could feel the tug of destiny
So she grabbed hold tight and stepped through the door
of the life and the future her heart longed for

Day after day as she remained committed
The world opened up to a dream revisited
Behold that girl so full of faith...
The woman she became once she let herself be saved

By the grit of that unwavering faith
She learned to lead her life instead of merely existing each day
Where is she now and what's her future look like?
She's focused and driven and has her eyes on the prize

She's been through the past and chose to leave it all there
Leaving nothing to stop her and daring the world to beware
For the intensity of her ambition and the fierceness in her flare
They give her the strength to carry any stresses she may ware

Long Live the Dream! was her testimony quite so
She was on a mission and let all the world know
And where did she get this calling? This marker to meet?
From the lessons of yesteryear and the feel of defeat

By accepting her flaws and the mistakes she had made
She learned to love herself again and so the plot was laid
In forgiveness is where she found her greatest of strengths
The regaining of her faith and hope for years

Just as He had brought her back to life
She was charged to do the same for those who suffered dimming lights
So she set forth with a brand new way
A joy, a calling, to lead the way

She rests easy now for the first time in years
Her mind holding no negativity and her heart no fears
She's grateful, too, for the winding and crumbling roads of her past
For they led her to see the Beauty in all of her Tomorrows and the simple but dignified hope that they casts

Twenty Years

To lose faith after having come so far
is to deny the dream from its ability to soar
On the days where strength is tested
and courage required
One must remain diligent in the progression
of all they've acquired
As easy as it may be to just give up
Where lies the glory in defeat as such?
Five years ago, that girl who is gone
is determined to remain five more years strong
Stuck here in the middle of the past and the future
Believing wholeheartedly in the capability instilled in her
She may long for the days of complete bliss and no worries
Though she can still feel the ghost of days when life was so lowly
So humbled she finds herself amidst a singular gloom hour
and takes to heart the challenge not to cower
Staying faithful in her course and dredging up fight for one more day
A girl with a past who's ten years on her way

Bystanders

I am no bystander to this life I live
W here I am today is the result of things that I did
To blame the world or the jokers I've crossed
Would be irresponsible and a complete bust
They played their parts and so did I
And I've spent a few years of cleaning time
The messes that were made by many hands
It fell on me to draw up a cleansing plan
Still a ways to go but making strides
Until I reach the days that I'm free to shine
Lost will be the heartaches of yesteryear
Glory a constant and days of no fear
It's cleaning time for this wayward soul
Progression and triump the number one goal
Far from who I was but still finding myself
I'm responsible for my happiness; no one else
Saying goodbye to the past and hello to my truest self
Amazing is the heart which is so full of hope
A force to be reckoned with unlike anything else
Cleared away are the cobwebs and dusted off is my heart
I'm grateful for the future I've been able to start
To the bruises and scars that've been made along the way
Rest in the past for you can no longer accompany me on my way
You have your place and can stay in the hands
Of the giver of your pain and the source of your plan
Me? I've faced my demons head on in the light
Forcing them out and leaving them behind
No bystander to the life that I had been living
But in taking responsibility myself I have forgiven
And in this breath of new beginnings
I've gained a life and a future worth living

Fleur De Free

I crave the simple things, the littlest moments bring me most joy
Still, I hold the biggest of dreams and have amditedly developed a ploy

Flowers in a field and the laughter of a child
Things that make my heart content, and any hurt can reconcile

Just the same, when pen and quill are near
A peaceful feeling falls upon this soul and about the atmosphere

The duties of a homemaker, a mother's work 'til the conscious retires
Yet, the crowded musings of a writer's mind is anything but hiding

In trying to divide the sides war is sure to ensue
I've tried it one too many times and what a storm such a war can brew

Only in acceptance, can the two worlds survive
Allowing a meshing of the roles and embracing them as they collide

Never such a feeling, the relief that comes in tow
As when you surrender to your true self and let the universe take control

It may not be so common; may not be the norm
But I'll take my flowers and ambitions and bask in a life so warm

For how can either be wrong if each threads blood to me?
Opposite ends of the scale, the air of both is what I breathe

Simple things like pretty flowers and porchswings
Grande hopes, big faith, and a heart stiched with ink around the seams

The inner workings of a busy mom, the heart of a poet and wishful themes
The path to which I'll get where I'm going; the freedom I've redeemed

No competition, no taking sides
Just flowers and big dreams

Fleur de Free in simplicity
Ambition, synchronicity.
