Christmas Night

Snow storm on Christmas Eve.
Santa’s sleigh Church Services cancelled.
Stranded sitting out the storm with family.
Christmas story read lots of presents under the tree.
Ripped open the gifts.
Young ones fell in love with new gifts.
Spouse’s sipped coffee played the latest game.
Husbands cracked beers, someone shouted grab the cards.
I rummaged through the junk drawer.
It was better than ripping open my childhood gifts.
For the first hour I ran beers kept score.
A boar to most lads but it was the start of my Christmas miracle.
Soon my Christmas miracle would come true.
Or so I thought, soon I would be distraught.
Heard a voice, a voice from a past dream.
The kid will play, Let the kid play.
No dream I was about to play.
My house of cards came crashing down.
Christmas miracle not meant to be.
Spouses sabotaged my shining moment.
Spouses invited the men to play their stupid game.
Husbands caved, played the last hand.
Slammed the last beers
All I wanted for Christmas was to sit at the card table.
Knowing I would not play.
I went into pure panic.
Panic turned into a childhood tantrum.
The Farther and Son took the brunt of my childhood tantrum.
Crying, bawling doing all I could do to get back my seat at the table.
Could not take it any more I was so close.
Close to being an outcast from my family.
Storm or no storm I had to go.
Emotions, tears and an innocent childhood left on the table that eve.
Silent thoughts, deeps snow drifts a deflated Christmas miracle.
It was a Christmas Miracle I made it home, but upset because I did not gamble.
