Say Yes

It’s not the movie ticket and popcorn
he paid for on our first date that
made me like him.

It’s not the necklace he put around
my neck on our 1 year anniversary that
made me love him.

It’s not the ring he slipped on my finger
when I said yes as he stood from his knee to kiss me that
made me realize I wanted to spend eternity with him.

It’s the way he kisses me good morning and
the way he always kisses me goodnight that
made me realize I never want to take on life with anyone else

Blessed

I will become a better me
A better me than I was yesterday
For everyday is a gift
A gift we cannot take for granted

So I'll take each day as an opportunity
An opportunity for self improvement
So I can be the best me I can be

And when the year turns over
I'll have another 365 days
to become a better me
And for that I cannot be more thankful

Be Your Own Hero

Not all heros come in capes,
not the most influential ones anyways.
the ones who feed us,
nurture us,
shelter us,
shower us with unconditional love.
those are the real heros

one day you reach a point
the ones we’ve looked up to our whole life
aren’t the ones we look up to anymore

we get older, our views change
we realize we strive to be better,
better than what we thought our heros were

and maybe that's just it.
maybe it’s meant to be this way
it’s heart breaking thinking
that what we’ve looked up to our whole life
are just regular people trying to find a hero within themselves.

Christmas Is

Christmas is the next holiday after thanksgiving
It's when the turkey festivities are over
and the following day you decorate the exterior of your house in lights

Christmas is when you switch your tea to egg nog
It's when you switch your vanilla coffee creamers to peppermint flavor
and your favorite movies turn into Christmas classics

Christmas is the time where everyone gathers
It's when your relatives come into town that you haven't seen in months
and your heart fills with holiday cheer

Christmas is a time for giving
It's when you put others before yourself
and you don't second guess why you're doing it

Christmas is a time for love
It's when your heart grows ten times it's actual size
and then you realize why it's your favorite holiday

Always Watching Over You

No longer are you by my side
Although I know you’re way up high
Helping me through life’s hardest days
When my world is shades of grey.
I thank you, my Guardian Angel.

The Dangers of Feeling Alone

Loneliness triggers voices in my head,
voices that makes one feel unlikeable, unloved.

It’s our nature to be social,
to be buzzing about like busy bees.
we feed off of others energy

so why,
why in this enormous world of 7 billion people
does a girl like me feel so empty?

Moving On

It’s when you stop remembering the way
he used to do all the things that would
make you smile when you’re sad

It’s when you’d stay up late
talking on the phone about
anything and everything
under the moon

It’s when you feel nothing
at the thought of him, when it doesn’t
suffocate you to hear his name
leave someone else's lips

It’s when you start to wish for your own happiness,
for your own smile and none of them
will have anything to do with him
anymore.

Sometimes

Some feelings plummet
so deep, so quick
into the heart
that only loneliness
can help you
feel once more.

Some truths are
so bitter, so painful
that only mortification
can help you
cope with them.

Some things are so heartbreaking
that only your soul
can do the crying
for them.
