The Nun and the Witches Last Walk

Even though
It was so long ago
It still holds the place in my heart
The one I reserved for special moments
with him
The times before his health
got the best of our relationship
Back when my grandpa
was able to be my
grandpa

It was my first parade
and one of his last
The Halloween of
2006.

There was
tigers
and lions
and bear
oh my.
but there was also the usual
witches, and monsters
but most importantly
there was my grandpa.

He volunteered to help
with the small monsters
of classroom 301 that year
which would also be his last
so he was able to walk with his
even if he kept stopping
to pick up candy
along the way.

walking with him
along the crowded streets
past the sirens of the firetrucks
and over the steep hills
will forever beat any memory
of
trick or treating
passing out candy
or the endless Halloween parties

for that was just a moment to enjoy
now that his old age has hit him
hard
there's no more walking
no more dressing up for Halloween
just to see a smile on the face of
his grandchildren
his little monsters

That moment will forever hold my heart
ten years ago was
the last time
this witch
had her
nun
of a grandfather
walk beside her

Father

Father
Father, who never cared
Father, who was never there
Father, who missed it all
Father, who caused me to fall
Father, who broke my heart
Father, who hated me from the start
Father, who missed his chance
Father, who will never see my last dance
Father, who said goodbye
Daughter, who is to strong to cry.

What Is Love

What is love?
We live in a generation where
sex is easy to find
yet when it comes to love
we struggle.

We're so attracted to the opposite
and to the new
but each time we wonder why
one of us always leaves
broken and with walls
higher than the last

We claim that the past hurts
and we have scars from those
that just didn't work
so how come we always reach for the same
lies and betrayal?

We say love is nothing more but
a broken record
this is another false statement of
a lost generation
we in fact are the broken record
not love

love itself is beautiful
love is knowing the person you are with
understands you more on a mental level
than they could ever care to know you on a
physical crave
love is spending your forever with your best friend
without the need of labels
or acceptance
love is simply love

My Father

My father never was the man
I expected him to be
He wasn't the drunk
who would lose his temper
and out lash at the ones he claimed
to love
Nor was he the man
who raised his fist out of anger
to every women who did him wrong

My father wasn't the man
who though bragged about his time
spent serving the usmc
was dishonorably discharged
He wasn't the man who claimed us
as his little girls
yet allowed our virtue to be taken away
by a complete stranger

For you see
that man was merely a creator
not a parent
and certainly not a father
he simply was a what not to be
guide for life

My sperm donor created me pain
for years
it wasn't until i truly looked around
and saw the evil that he created
that i knew

The man that I pushed away for years
the one who showed
nothing but love
and support
to both my mother
and the kids she added

the man who I rudely labeled
as just being a stepfather
the one who held me
during every
break up
every lost of a friend
through
everything

He's the one who is
MY FATHER
not the man who fooled me for
years

October Thirty First

October Thirty-first
creature after creature
carefully finding their way to your
chaotic world
cyclops and
chimeras
carelessly chasing humans around like toys
camazotzs and
coinchenns
cramming young human and animal flesh into their
considerably terrifying muzzles
creatures creeping around every
corner
caged in the coldest part of hell
circumvented for one day of every year
circumspect the worse for
creatures are free on
October thirty-first

A Poem For Brooklyn

We might have been cursed
being ten years apart
but you will forever and always
hold a special place in my
heart
from the moment I saw you
I knew you were the one
who I wanted to laugh with
and grow with
til I could no longer see the sun

we've had our ups
and most certainly our downs
moments of yelling and fighting
but we've always stuck around

Some might say we can't be best friends
maybe it's the age difference
but we always just laugh
and say let's do it again

For you are my best friend
through and through
No matter where life takes us
just know I'll always miss you

So let some say it's a curse
for I strangely disagree
the best thing in life to happen
was you and me

I've loved you Brooklyn
from day one
and I can't wait to have
some more sisterly fun
From watching you grow
from that sweet little child
to your terrible twos
here we are now
man how time flew

you're my best friend
my sister
my twirp
and most definitely my brat
no matter what life throws at you
I will always have your back

I can't wait to see you grow
and to achieve the best
but for now stay young
and get some rest
Just know I love you
and I'll be here til
this crazy thing called life is done

The Splat

The splat
Colors stay
colors fade
but the splat remains the same
colors split
colors fit
but the splat is always the common fix

colors brighten
colors dim
but the splat always shows what's within
colors combine
colors divide
but the splat carries on how it should

colors always change
for we all the colors
each and every one of us
different in our own way
weak on our own
but when we combine
we make something greater
something stronger
an item
a life style
a life

for we are the splat

The Ones You Left Behind

you say life is well
and all is fine
so why wont you say that
to the ones you left behind?

you're succeeding
with two new
beautiful kids
will you ever introduce them
to the ones you left behind?

you want to get married
start over with her
is she the reason
there's no longer room
for the ones you left behind?

you haven't seen us in years
no phone calls or tears
for the ones you left behind?

Don't worry about us though
for we are fine
being the ones
you left behind.

She

They never took the time to truly notice her.
She was the girl who was always around
but no one knew
The girl who everyone talked to
but never really cared about
She was the girl who just blended in
They noticed what was on the outside
not what was in
they saw the perfect girl
who knew how to dress
and who played the part
but they didn't know her
nor did they ever care

They didn't notice that
she's battled depression since the age of six
the scars carved deep in her wrist
the ones she always covered
the ones who did notice
pretended like they were just scratches
claw marks at the most
and carried on with their lives
all she wanted was for someone to help
someone to notice her
someone to say they care
but like always
they didn't notice
they didn't care

They didn't notice that
her father has been out of her life
for over half of it and
the half he was there for
she was beaten
told she was worthless
and left for dead
they never cared to ask her about her home life
they just assumed all was fine by the smile she held
the ones who did notice
just laughed it off
never asked if she was okay
never asked if she wanted to talk
all she wanted was a true friend
but like always
they didn't notice
they didn't care

They didn't notice that
her mother
as sweet as she may have seemed
badly a deadly addiction
one that made it seem as though
she had no mother at all
she would lose sleep
night after night
to make sure her mother stayed clean
then go to school with a fake smile
and a low self-esteem.
the ones who noticed
judged her not her mother
they made it out to be
her life the reasoning for
her mothers addiction
all she ever wanted was
for someone to hug
but she never got that
they never noticed
they never cared

They never noticed anything about her
any of the problems she had
or the struggles she faced
the ones who did noticed
played it off as a joke
they never noticed
they never cared
and she decided
she no longer
noticed
she no longer cared

The day came when enough was enough
she was tired of no one noticing
no one caring
she took her last breath
and stepped down from the chair
now that's she's gone
everyone notices
everyone cares
but where was they
when her smile remained
when she was still there to share

Her life was now over
no more sadness
no more pain
she didn't have to worry about
her mothers addiction
or the absence of her father
all of the struggles disappeared
the moment her soul vanished
she now has peace
and now they notice
and care.
