Assumptions

That girl you see walking

With her head down

And a hand covering her face?

Has severe insecurities.

The boy who always

Avoids touching others

That you touch just because?

Has microphobia.

That girl who you

Make fun of

For wearing long sleeves all the time?

Is hiding the bruises from her dad.

The boy who dates

A different girl

Every week?

Is gay and unaccepted by his parents.

That girl who laughs too loudly

At things

That aren’t even funny?

I trying to hide her depression.

The boy you make fun of

For cutting himself?

Is being raped at home

By his mother.

That girl you hate

Because she’s always surrounded by friends?

Suffers from the fear

Of being alone.

The boy who gets on your nerves

Because he acts stupid

For attention in class?

Gets ignored by his parents.

The girl you call “slut”

Because she’s sixteen

And pregnant?

Got raped during a house burglary.

Never make assumptions about

Anyone other than yourself

Because you never know

What someone else is going through.
