Broken Soldier

He never understands the world though societies eyes,
the pain inside more than he can bear anymore,
just one more broken soldier,
never even seen combat yet,
yet wanting to go over to distant lands so much,
to escape the loneliness he feels in his own home, his own country,
searching for the meaning of life where madness reigns true,
what does God want of me, how can I best serve him,
how can he best serve his country,
how can he escape the darkness,
just one more broken soldier,
looking to war to fix him,
looking for a best friend in troubled times,
looking for someone to fix his heart,
tired of being scared,
not of death,
not of being hurt in war,
but scared of being inadequate, unwanted,
tired of searching for those hero stories, those fairy tales of love and redemption,
running forward right into the very walls that are thrown at him,
never getting close enough to show his true colors,
drowning in a sea of troubles,
growing and angry with despair,
but a soldier he stands never retreating,
never willing to quit,
never leaving anyone who has fallen on the path to fend for themselves,
and at times being used by the very people he wants to help,
the tears on his cheek the only reminders of his work,
completed but unappreciated,
the blood he has spilled only his own,
the bruises everlasting, turning into invisible scars that only he sees and feels as he tries to go on,
the cold look in his eyes the result of years of pain,
his stance only able to hold for the Honor and truth inside him,
never will he fall below the standards set by God and men,
not boys, not users of women, but men who appreciate their lovers, wives and sweethearts,
their damsels in distress in the stone tower,
but hesitant to get to close,
the rocks and stones maybe thrown again,
and even when they do we stand true taking the blows,
vainly hoping the steady flow will cease and they will realize we are wearing not shinny armor,
not riding a white horse,
but dressed casually, and riding a black horse,
we are not symbolic, because he is normal and true,
he will not display what you want,
but rather what you need,
he is still one broken soldier, searching for the truth,
maybe Iraq will show it to him....to me

Angels In the Moonlight

He was my friend and he lay dying
All alone, just me and him
But I knew no one could help him now
Because life's thread was getting thin

I'd built a campfire out of deadwood
Wrapped him in his soogan tight
Watched the campfire challenge darkness
As the sunset welcomed night

I put the coffee on from habit
Though I knew he couldn't drink
I hoped the smell would comfort him
Maybe give me time to think

The trip was one of many made
For twenty years and more
Just two old friends that fished high lakes
And watched the eagles soar

I'll never know what spooked his horse
He was mountain bred and born
But something made him rear and fall
Pinned my pard beneath the horn

His lungs were crushed past talking
But his eyes were still alert
As I eased his saddle 'neath his head
He tried to hide his hurt

I masked the tears that stormed my eyes
There was no time to cry
Somehow I had to find the strength
To watch my best friend die

I told him I was helpless
I had done all I could do
But I would stay with him until the end
Then the hidden tears came through

His hand moved slowly over mine
Then he raised one finger high
His gaze seemed fixed beyond the stars
As he pointed to the sky

His lips were slowly moving
And though they uttered not a word
I sensed that he was talking
To some presence I'd not heard

"Is it God that you are talking to,"
I asked, to try to understand
His head moved slightly sideways
As did the pressure from his hand

I looked upward where he pointed
But at first saw not a thing
Then I seemed to sense and feel the beat
Of something nearing on the wing

As the full moon cleared the rugged peaks
A lone owl gave its mournful call
Dark shadows stirred of things unknown
And I watched in silent awe

I recalled a phrase from long ago
Or was it whispered from the skies
"To behold an Angel on the wing
You must use your heart for eyes"

There was magic in that moonlit glade
I lost my fear of my friend's death
A look of peace replaced the pain
As he drew his final breaths

"Is it Angels," I asked quietly
A final nod, then all alone
I watched Angels in the moonlight
As they flew my old friend home

Spicy Bell Pepper

Stop watching me with those derisory eyes
sweet like bear claw
spicy like a bell pepper
give me back my barette
I'm not letting my hair down'
from cooties to copacetic my biggest disease
jus like when u was freshman
lost your retainer cried all day
give me back my fanny pack
you kept it all those years
crazy grifter lost on the freeway
looking for route 66 in a gay way
why you back jerk off?
scads of luv but to late
here's a sawbuck go call someone who cares!

But if you put your hand to my chest,

Stupid Soldier

Young boy with no education
Joins the army to be a hero
Acts like a coward in the frontline
Goes crazy when his team are killed
Rapes and kills local children,
but is pardoned by guilty government
Stupid soldier, just the govt's pawn
When will you all learn?
It's all about power, not you protecting the country
They don't give a shit when you come back all crazy
Suffering from traumatic stress you lose everything
You family disown you, your homeless and alone
The govt don't care, they got what they wanted
From baby killer to a utter embarrassment
Thats the life of a stupid soldier.

Jealous Cowboy

Men in the rough—on the trails all new-broken obsession
     Those are the friends we remember with tears;
Few are the words that such comrades have spoken
Deeds are their tributes that last through the years.

Men in the rough—sons of prairie and mountain
     Children of nature, warm-hearted, clear eyed;
Friendship with them is a never-sealed fountain;
Strangers are they to the altars of jealous pride.

Men in the rough—curt of speech to their fellows
     Ready in everything, save to deceive;
Theirs are the friendships that time only mellows,
And death cannot sever the bonds that they weave.

A Poets Dozen Muse

When your MUSE leaves you
you struggle with the ink pen
your mind is all blank

A poets worst nightmare
writers block is a big scare

what if we could write and write
without needing to stop to breathe

It is always difficult when we can't think
the words are blocked from coming out
nothing helps not even a strong drink
you feel like you wanna scream and shout
I'm on the look our for the muse talent scout!!

Untold Love

My wrists bleed with an untold love

My heart as free as a caged dove

The soul burns with an unwanted desire

There's nothing left for me to aspire

The words I speak are of solitude alone

Every voice turning into a drone

From now on I shall live and die alone

Never shall love be truly shown

The one I love lives miles from home

Everyone else just seems a clone

She's different and holds me postpone

Together we'll be but for now alone

I'm devoted to her untold

I'll never stop loving her but behold

The beauty shines from her hold

Her eternal gaze is to be behold

She's nothing less than I have foretold

Tragedy In Black Jealous Cowgirl

Hey jealous Cowgirl, how jealous you must be
Don't be so bitter coz your cowboy left town
With a hell ya, you take your gun to the saloon
to shoot that 'ho' who played around with your man.

Jealousy and rage build a storm in your heart,
like someone been stabbing daggers in ya back!
Hey cowgirl why so obsessed with taking revenge?
Don't ya know you'll be serving a long sentence!

You lock eyes with that $2 ho, pull that trigger and bang
That girl is lying on the floor as dead as can be
Now your scared as the sheriff looks for you
Dark days lie ahead, cuz of the stupidity of ya actions.

Locked up and behind bars no one can save ya now
Stupid jealous little cowgirl, taking away a precious life.
Such a tragedy of the heart and your cowboy he ain't returning
Obsession and jealousy, such tragic dark things!
