Who Am I

I am a creation of myself
I don't know who I am
I'm this to you and that to him
Hardly more than just a scam
I'd like to be who I'd like to be
If only I could figure
Which of me is the me
I see within the mirror

Little Boy

Little boy with a toy gun
Dreams of all that might be fun
To be fully clad in combat gear
And go into battle with no fear
A hero he would like to be
Even though he cannot see
That heroes today are hard to discern
From the victims created without concern
By politicians who think it fine
To support an economy based on crime
Who is it that wins in war
Politicians corporations so many more
Who never see the horror and gore
Just sit at home adding up the score
Measured by profits next quarter’s gain
Riding the military gravy train
Little boy think real hard
You mustn’t ever disregard
What life would be like to come home scarred
Or in a box with an honor guard
The government issues you combat boots
Then leaves you homeless and destitute
TBI PTSD paraplegic or amputee
The VA tries to serve them well
But the government that sent them to hell
Makes many promises then builds a wall
Cutting off resources creating a pall
So many veterans waiting in pain
Ignored by their country
Such a great shame
Little boy with a toy gun
War really isn’t very much fun
Put aside your dreams of glory
Listen to the veterans sad true story

The American Dream

The American Dream is dead indeed
A victim of American Greed
Trickle down they said we’d try
Then proceeded to suck us dry

The One Percent seeking thrills
Living large in Beverly Hills
Paying minimum wage even though it kills
And the middle class can’t pay their bills

Infinite growth is just a dream
Some would call it a Ponzie Scheme
Leveraged living by the way
Selling tomorrow to pay for today
On this you surely can depend
Certain destruction in the end

Time will pass it’s always the same
Just the same old political game
Some other fool will take the blame
Absolving us of our Great Shame

As always the best government money can buy
Politicians ready and eager to comply
Super PACS no need to balk
The Supreme Court ruled money talks

Citizens United paved the way
Now Plutocrats will have their sway
Most will suffer a few will play
But in the end we all will pay

The greedy deeds of Kleptocrats
Both Republicans and Democrats
Business as usual the same old malarkey
Democracy taking us to Oligarchy

But be of stout heart and have no fear
Climate change is already here
And in the end it will be clear
Sooner or later we’ll all disappear

The Edge

Life is balanced on a razor thin edge
Fiery magma below us
And just on the edge
The atmosphere thins to nothing but cold
But we go on living as if never told
Never listening living in ignorant bliss
Something is wrong something’s amiss
Do something now or we can dismiss
All that we care for all that we’ll miss
When nothing is done and we have arrived
Only to find that nothing’s survived

Black

I’m backed into the deepest darkest black corner of my mind
I see no way out all exits are mined
I feel ashamed to feel as black as I do
So many others suffer life’s terrible stew
To compare my troubles are minor and few
But still the blackness eats at my soul
Wears me down and takes a great toll
Suffering comes in so many colors
Affecting the lives of so many others
Hunger and thirst the color of dust
Illness disease the green of disgust
Indigence poverty other hardships of need
Grey and colorless but does not exceed
The bright blood red of torture and war
That covers our planet and goes on evermore
But still The Blackness blinds me to all
Hiding reality as if a great wall
Stands between me and what I desire
A bit of peace and release from this mire

A Rising Tide For Contest

There once was a climate change doubter
He really was quite a shouter
Until late one night
The high tide just right
Found the beach house he loved under water

Samsara

Why must all things suffer so
Oh how I would like to know
Why are we given life
Only to suffer hunger thirst and strife
Fairness is a thing of fiction
Given greed corruption affliction
We are not created equal
Some are victims some are lethal
Some require everything
Some settle for anything
Luxury enjoyed by some
Others fight for any crumb
Deprivation hate starvation
Conditions plaguing every nation
Spoken of but no solution
Only procrastination and delusion
Why must all things suffer so
Ask a Buddhist
He will know

Nowhere

I'm going nowhere
And you're coming with me
What always was will never be
But what is now we can't ignore
And someday soon will be nevermore
When we were we weren't really
Present only surrealy
I'm going nowhere
And you're coming with me
Best accept it you can't escape
Your final destiny and certain fate
In the end there is no more
And you and I will be for sure
Nowhere never evermore
But nowhere isn't really there
So when we get there we won't really care

These Eyes

These wondrous eyes draw me in
I can feel the desert on my skin
And almost touch where time begins

The Gods Must Be Crazy

The Gods must be crazy
Or they never lived
And those that depend on them to give
Blessings peace and life after death
Had better not be holding their breath

If They live They’ve given so much
The Inquisition Jihad and such
War after war after war after war
Priestly abuse the concept of sin
And so much more I don’t know where to begin

Survival of the fittest
The reign of elitist
Slavery poverty robbery atrocity
Homicide patricide fratricide genocide
It really truly is hard to decide
What the hell The Gods may have decried
Creating a species hell bent on suicide

There may be good hidden in the garbage
But still no reason or need to pay homage
We are not here for any good reason
Just an accident – physics high treason
Morality is not a command from on high
But rather necessity for us to get by
In this heaven or hell we call life here on earth
Something of value to give life worth birth
