We Walk

We walk with honor
     for those who have survived.
We walk with courage
for those still fighting the fight.
We walk with dignity
for those unable to walk themselves.
We walk in memory
for those we have lost along the way.
We may be cold and tired
     our feet may be sore
we may feel unable to take another step.
Through the coldest rains
     hottest days and darkest nights
guided by the gentle light of the luminaria.
Knowing why we are here
     friends, family, loved ones,
and those we have yet to meet.
We walk.

Dreams

The dreams, they frighten me
They are only memories, all of them,
 memories.
But, oh how the frighten
How much they hurt

Dreams, memories, there is no difference,
not to me
I relive the memories of my young life
I relive them every night
They seem so real to me
It's like doing it all over again

Every night
I feel the pain, the hurt - again
I feel the anger, the hate - again
I feel the guilt and the shame - again
I feel the love - again
That frightens me most of all.

My Hero

I watch you running through the room
Always laughing, smiling, happy
You race up to me "I'm gonna get you"
Then you turn to run away and "get"
The next person you come to.

I smile slowly, feeling the tears that prickle my eyes
You, who are so small in size, but,
So large in strength
Never once has it slowed you down
Never once has it held you back.

For you, it is normal
You don't run, you gallop
You don't jump, you leap
You don't walk, you limp
When you get tired, you fall down.

Always with a smile on your face
Never with a tear or a frown.

Taken Away

I sit here and think
My brother is dead
How can you leave me
Runs through my head
How can I think this
I love him so much
He is my brother
I need him so much
I sit here and think
Of what people will say
Gathered round his grave
Death took him away
I shouldn't write this
But I need to tell
How my body's on earth
But my mind is in hell.
