Gavin Childress Poem
Bright daffodils adorn the ground
And rise where winter clods were found;
The air is full of scent and song,
(To God both flowers and birds belong);
Sorrows shaking heart and mind
Fall, as blossoms, in the wind.
Now Spring has come, and winter's past
Oh do not pass us by so fast!

Gavin Childress Poem
Mr. Ford, why did you make
The cars which cause such deep heartache?...
From MOTs to punctured tyre,
Was that a gun, or did I misfire?
Parking tickets, yellow lines;
Wheelclamps, countless crushing fines;
Insurance costs, CCTV
Congestion Charge for you and me;
Broken mirrors, cracks and scrapes-
Stolen cars, false number plates;
Big bills from men I cannot trust,
Who warn of camshaft cracks and rust;
Some love to drive with beer can filled;
‘Who cares if I, -or they-, are killed?’
Road-rage, shouting, broken glass:
Some cannot let an insult pass.
The traffic jams we see each day
Seem made to wear the clutch away.
‘Was that a space that just went by?
Or must I drive ‘till our tank’s dry?’
The eyesore of the breaker’s yard
With twisted metal, dull and marred.
There’s poisoning from lead-filled plumes;
Monoxide clouds, and choking fumes.
Excuse me for the way I talk:
But Mr. Ford… today I’ll walk!

Gavin Childress Poem
I warn thee, chylde, of hemlock's wayes,
Such Berys ende thy tender Dayes.
If thou would'st eat Forbidden fruit,
Trie the Pulp and drawe the Root-
Its Wormwood and its Poyson'd sap
Woulde take thee to thy Maker's lap.
Thus Forbidden fruit woulde draw
Thee to Eden's Joye once more.

Gavin Childress Poem
From this day, Lord, I determine
In Thy presence to abide;
Not for loaves, or daily sunshine,
But within Thyself to hide.
Lord, at every passing problem
Help me to approach Thy throne;
And, released from man's opinion,
Seek the will of God alone.
Grant, Lord, faith to move each mountain
Which would hide Thyself from me;
Lead me to the dancing fountain
Of Thy love eternally.
