I Want To Go Home

Everyone says that home is where the heart is,
but it's when I lie in bed wide awake in the middle of the night
while thoughts of you cloud my mind,
that I feel homesick.
When we're wrapped around each other's warm bodies,
with your fingers tangled in my hair
and my head lying on your beating chest,
all of my fears and my troubles fade into oblivion.
I hear your heartbeat gently whisper
"You'll be okay."
into my ear.
That's where my heart is.
That's where my home is.
But I'm here without you and I'm starting to think
that maybe somewhere in between these empty beer cans and the echoes of your heartbeat that reverberate and never leave my head
is the closest to home I'll ever be.
I just want to go home.
