Grandpa's On the Internet

When someone shouted loudly
From somewhere down the hall
I dropped what I was doing
It almost made me fall

I took a long, deep breath
And started toward the noise
Grandpa had been visiting
And was working with the boys

Then the shout came once more
I could not believe my ears
“Grandpa’s on the internet”
Multiplied my fears

This man had refused to learn
How to turn a computer on
And now he is on the internet
I was sure I heard it wrong

But As I turned the corner
And quietly peeked into the room
The vision which confronted me
Was anything but gloom

Grandpa was watching the monitor
As he pushed the mouse around
I stood and watched in disbelief
Trying not to make a sound

He hit the enter and shouted
“Where the heck am I now”
The boys were laughing so hard
they could hardly make a sound.

I watched for several minutes
Before he saw me there
Grandpa stopped what he was doing
And turned slowly in his chair

“What’s the matter, can’t you see
I’m busy with this box?
I’m finding friends I never knew
I’m seeing little locks”

“I’m moving this little arrow
Back and forth across the screen.
I can make the whole thing disappear
No longer to be seen”.

“I see pictures taken long ago
And some from far away.
I ask and get an answer
And it doesn’t take three days”.

The look that was on his face
I thought was gone for good.
But now he was having fun again
I never thought he would.

For when he lost my mother
his world came to an end.
He sat in his recliner
His heart would never mend.

This new challenge in front of him
Had pulled him from his chair.
His mind had turned to other things
Traveling to who knows where.

It didn’t really matter
Where he was or what he found
“Grandpa‘s on the internet”
Oh, what a lovely sound

Nature's Perfect Symphony

Have you ever watched an eagle
soaring it its flight?
Have you ever heard a frog sing
as he calls out in the night?
Have you ever seen a chipmunk
and looked him in the eye?
Have you ever felt a wolf was near
when you heard his lonesome cry?
Have you ever watched the cows come home
one by one, in line?
Have you ever observed a swooping bat
in the darkness of nighttime?
Have you ever felt the softest fur
on a little kitten's back;
or touched the velvet cover
on a young deer's rack?
have you ever watched the moon come up
long before it's due
or watched it go down slowly
when the sun was up there, too?
Have you ever watched a butterfly
struggle to be free
of the cocoon which changed it
into what it was meant to be?
Have you ever watched a spider
spin his silken chain
if something tore it down
it quietly began again?
There are things which we can learn
if we only watch and see.
It's all right here before us......
Nature's Perfect Symphony.
