World Changers

When someone is born,

their life stretches before them,

a million-color tapestry shining with adventure,

hope,

dreams,

and chances to change their world.

Anyone can change the world around them.

Sometimes it's as simple as saying "hello",

or banding together to create something amazing.

We're all born world-changers.

We're all born with the talent to make our world a better place.

The world can be changed,

and anyone can make a difference.

All it takes is the courage to do it.

Because I Am a Girl

Because I am a girl,
I'm dissuaded from learning about science,
dismissed, ridiculed, shot down.
Because I am a girl,
my mother had to teach me how to wield my keys as a weapon
in a world of men she doesn't trust.
Because I am a girl,
I will have opportunities denied me.
I will be scorned when I speak up in conversation.
I will be thought of as less, and why?
Because I am a girl.

Collecting Stings

I'm sensitive and I collect damage too easily
I sit here and I write but the words don't come too easily
I collect it from the people who come after me
I'm a collector of hurt feelings and for you it's not plain to see
it's okay, though, i'll collect it while we talk on the phone,
me to you but you to other people instead of me
maybe it's because I'm sitting here without you
writing out verses to ask myself "did you ever need me anyway?"

Where a Girl Found God

it was 10:30 PM and we were so paranoid
that your dad would see us
and the streetlights reflected in your eyes
and they shone like the stars we were kissing under
and God, all I wanted was to hold you forever,
your mouth was the only one I wanted on mine,
and your arms were where I found God.
