Following Their Lead

They said I'll never make it
I guess they were right
I never fulfilled their dreams

Let's Make a Difference

We need to encourage each other and not hate on each other

We need to embrace each other and try not to race against each other

We need to uplift each other and try not to create a rift between each other

We need to give advice to each other and try not to sell vice to each other

We need to believe in each other and try not to deceive each other

We need to calm the tide and try not to let our political differences dictate our ride

I Am Only Two

Mom tells me shut up
Threatens to give a head smack
I am only two

Passage of Time

Browsing the three dailies of T&T,
All I see are front pages covered with bloodshed, turmoil and misery.
Where is the country I once knew?
The multi-cultural twin island state:
Where one can go out and not be concerned about the time he shall retreat,
Send his kids to a birthday party and know by night they would be returning with many treats,
A place where loud explosions can be heard at New Year’s or Christmas and know they are
simply in commemoration of these festive occasions,
A nation that can acknowledge each other with a glance and a smile,
Sometimes exchanging a few words of direction when someone ends up on the wrong aisle.

With the passage of time this peaceful atmosphere has changed,
And for that a spate of criminal activities has been exchanged.
Now I see my people crying out for attention,
Resorting to desperate measures to ease their mounting tension.
So they sprint to kidnap and kill,
For they think that producing chill would pay the bill.
But little do they know that the plans they concoct
Could have also been implemented to another situation to make a legal buck.
It seems that patience has departed from our people’s vocabulary
And life is now being dominated by a blue periphery.

What happened to Sparrow’s “Education is a must,”
And Gypsy’s “Little black boy” that earned him gold dust.
Their messages were meant to be forwarded to future generations
Not buried with the public’s abominations.
These two songbirds highlighted the consequences of illiteracy,
Yet some people disobeyed and opted for anarchy.
Now that our country has entered a phase of endless confusion
The leadership is under attack for its lax disposition.
While it would be fitting to place all the blame on the past and present government
It’s about time some parents took responsibility for their children’s detriment.

Ism Talk

You hear about it everyday
Discrimination in some sector of the nation

It comes in all forms and fashions
Placing on people’s lives many sanctions

Though you may have fallen victim to the ism fever
Please remember to remain a self believer

Those who commit these vicious offenses
Are only insecure with their own senses

Therefore they exploit our modest gestures
                                       To satisfy their arrogant pleasures

                                              So next time you experience
                                                             Criticism
                                                           Exclusivism
                                                            Ostracism
                                                                   Or
                                                              Racism

Remember you can convert them into OPTIMISM

Paparazzi

People who are on a mission
Trying to build their reputation
By shooting photos of stars on vacation,
Or maybe at some exhibition.
On possessing these famous faces
They quickly run to several marketplaces
Hoping to rake in millions of transitioned president faces
Then they lay back feeling like photography aces.

Get With the Program

Ever wonder what’s behind that positive drive
It’s the Lord’s program titled “Enriching Our Lives”
He never ceases to fulfill our expectations
And makes it quite clear that our existence has no limitations.

Before the Lord’s eyes we are all at celebrity status,
Therefore we must maintain dignity as our respiratory apparatus,
At points in this program challenges will claw
And we will be tempted to withdraw,
But before we get zapped by that flaw
Please remember the Lord’s proclamation “Walk in my Law.”

Although the situation is easier to state than abate
Let’s congregate and place some ideas on a slate
Bearing in mind rejection equals projection
Please recognize that we have scored a place in the Lord’s collection.

Absentminded

Lessons were over
But there was no sight of mother
Decided to wait for a while
However patience fell victim to guile

Walking down the hill
My body consumed by chill
I hoped that the car would unexpectedly appear
To ease my mounting fear

Saw many cars pass on the main
Not one the blue Laser, leaving me on a frame
Encountered three beings on my roam
Each one assuring me that they would safely take me home

That they did
But inside there was a catch that hid
Gran greeted me at the entrance
Expressing that she did not sense mother’s fragrance

Half an hour later
Mother entered like a gator
Thinking the excitement had subsided
Another detail was confided

Feeling confused and remorseful
Couldn’t this be enough to subdue the forceful?
Out came the leather
The ordeal that transpired certainly made me wiser.

Thank You

As one chapter of my life closes and another opens
I would like to extend my heartfelt praises
To the beautiful angels who made my dream come true.
About some of you, I had not even a clue,
While others I had only known for years few.
But despite the unfamiliarity
Your spirits were moved to perform the extraordinary
And for that I say THANK YOU.
