Winter Memories

Days of past and wintry times
The chill of night within my bones
Words that last and cling to rhyme
Crackling flames and yuletide tones

Birds of night sing one last song
Then capture flight to warmer lands
Where they shall stay all winter long
Until the season changes hands

Ribbons and bows beneath the tree
Neatly tied 'round gifts of love
Cookies and milk near Santa's seat
And the mistletoe hung
so high above

Hugs from friends who come to call
Children's faces filled with dreams
Good tidings and tinsel lining the walls
That share in my winter
with warm memories

The Colors Green

The colors so green
Drifting high in the trees
Are like none that I’ve seen
In the warm summer breeze

Blinders for the eyes
Casting out your sun
Shadows on the lines
Over matters left undone

A heart that lies broken
For the spirit left aching
All the words that we’ve spoken
Fade like dreams as we waken

The colors of green
A mixture in the meadows
From a black and white dream
To the blues and the yellows

Four leaves to the clover
The gift you are receiving
Is it luck that runneth over,
Or the truth that is believing?

Verdant colors that you nurture
Petals soft and evergreen
The kaleidoscope of future
A touch of nature unforeseen

Sasha and the Rain Song

Sasha And The Rain Song

Tapping at the window of my heart
Sasha with the summer in her eyes
Painted like a timeless piece of art
Hidden in the vision of my rhymes
She smiled and shared a moment in my life
And then the moment slowly disappeared
As if the moment was ever really mine
And the smile was even there for us to share
She read the words that I have worn
And asked which I have liked the best
I told her deep inside I’m sworn
To never judge above the rest
She said her heart was in a rain song
A tune she heard so long ago
I told her mine was in a love song
In search of fruit to help me grow
I took her hand and held it gently
I felt her spirit deep inside
She filled the emptiness within me
And brought to life what long had died
Our eyes met one last twinkling glance
Before I turned to say goodbye
The pitter patter of sweet romance
A song of rain and fresh desire

Winter Wind

Gently, life is drifting
through the branches
of my mind.
And every memory,
like a diamond,
cut and polished
till it shines.
Winter wind, still dancing
with the blooms
that wait to breathe.
Clouds of white
and skies of blue
upon the crest
of newfound spring.
The chill across
my aging skin
in search of warmth
within my heart.
The child’s voice
so deep within…
that, through the years,
has come to part.
A nest of birds
on fragile twigs
above the planet,
as it spins.
The nature of life
that rides a whisper
from a brand new
winter wind.

Lady of the Ocean

The sun is sinking over the beauty of her ocean.
Chords playing rhythms of love on guitar.
The warmth of the summer breeze
blowing through her soft silky hair.
Seagulls hovering over the Santa Barbara pier.
Sands of time sifting through her toes.
Lightly touching her consciousness
as the sensations pass over her body.
Reading her novel of loves
that have long come to pass,
she listens to the sounds of Heaven
played from her cloud.
She glances at the brightness of the
setting sun through her dark shaded lenses.
Visions of grandeur appear before her eyes.
They quickly fade to dreams
as she drifts off into a slumber.
But then the memory slips away
as she awakens to the crash of the sea
against her shore.
And all that is left is the magic spell that she is under.
My lady of the ocean,
the mirror in the sky
holds your portrait in captivity.
An image of a stranger,
still you've never come to know.
In disguise you hide your burdens
upon display near animosity...
towards the fruit that tastes of passion,
but bears the seed that never grows.

Crossing the Bridge

The shadows of the evening
 are slowly drifting by
like ghosts that haunt a foreign land
 beneath the starlit sky.
With images of past and of the future
 yet to come_
 the heart is beating faster
while the soul is on the run.

Caught up in the headlights
 the portrait of my essence_
 freefalling like a feather
 to the earth.
My life sleeps like a dreamer
 in the corners of creation.
 With love, the true foundation,
that will cradle me from birth.

Now it seems that words
become so hesitant to greet me.
 Blown into my senses
like the winds against my pain.
 Holding close,
 The memories etched inside,
 that never leave me_
 kindred to the spirit,
deep and cold as winter rain.

My eyes can’t turn away
 but just remain there hypnotized_
to a world that spins around me
 with designs of inspiration.
 Crossing over graveyards
the bridge of life is burning_
leaving behind the fruits of memory
 that has reached its expiration.

Still as a lifeless corpse
 my image falters.
 The likeness of a past
 I reminisce.
 A flash before my eyes,
 I face the alter.
 The life, before I died,
 I never lived.

No friends to leave behind
 to feel my sorrow.
No time to heal the wounds
 of yesterday.
 No promise there will be
 a new tomorrow,
to change the way I feel
 inside today.

The Peace who stilled the oceans
 for a moment_
left His footprints on the bridge
 for us to seek.
With the words that spoke of truth
 and pure atonement.
And the tears that fell for hearts
 He could not reach.

My Promise

I cannot buy you a house near the ocean
But I will build you a home deep inside
I cannot paint on your heart my devotion
But I can promise you a portrait in the sky

I will never be the leader of many men
But I shall follow the hearts of the humble
And I will never be perfect, free of sin
But I will splendor in my faith , should I stumble

I cannot adorn you with diamonds and gold
To shine like the sparkle in your eyes
But I can promise this heart that I hold,
Will be yours till the day that I die

I cannot travel to the past to change tomorrow
For the future, it is hidden in the stars
And if I run out of words, I shall borrow,
The kindness that is written in your heart

My promise is to hold you just enough that you will know
I will never let go of you, and the heart will never end
As long as it beats while we dance so very close
And the moment shares each memory with its everlasting kiss

Ballad of America

America, she sings and America she cries

Broken are the wings, this child filled with need

Searching for peace with tears in her eyes

Waving like a flag in the colors that she bleeds

Blessed from the start with the gift of her name

A home that is free and a heart that is caring

A place on this earth where her presence remains

A legacy filled with the spirit of sharing

America is stained by the sins of her past

But like nature, with the season, she will change

And each step that she takes she will carve a new path

To renew and give birth to a home on the range

So much fun as the child we were born

How remote now the memories we lived

Between what’s right and what’s wrong, we are torn

And now must learn not to forget but forgive

“America the Beautiful”, the ballad of our heart

The words you have spoken from our fathers bygone

Patron of peace may our lives never part

From the goal of our future to make love our new song

Keeper of the Crown

You walked on this earth
with a cross upon your shoulder.
You waltzed into Heaven
with a harp in your hands
you left us with a message
that will help us to grow older~
and a trail that we can follow
by your footprints in the sand.
As a gift you left your smile
that would soften our hearts,
and the memories of a childhood
we shall treasure with each day.
You lived a happy lifetime
but now as you depart
that broken peace
of us that hurts
still yearns for you to stay.
The world is a lonely hunter
since your feather flew away
dancing like "Bojangles"
on a cotton colored cloud~
searching for a rainbow
that will brighten rainy days,
while singing all your love songs
to the Keeper of the crown.

Together

Down the aisle, hand in hand
No denial there was love
Together one, the master plan
To seek the garden far above

Altogether, step by step
Marching slowly side to side
Eyes look right, but nothing left
Beyond the drifting of the tide

In the future we have goals
We hope will satisfy our needs
But as shoes are filled with holes
The earth begins to scar our feet

Once together we were fine
Like peas and carrots to the end
Towing faith across the line
Building castles in the sand

Now we’ve grown to be a part
Of something neither one can share
Oh, so distant shines the star
That once we followed with a prayer

There are times we are divided
When it’s hard to face the weather
But if we take what love provides us
We can face the storms together
