Visions

Visions

I have visions of cotton fields
On the plantations of old
I have visions of the slavery
As their life stories unfold

They worked from daylight
No work went undone
Their backs bent over
Their bodies baked by the sun

Not knowing if they would live
To see another day
Family separated from each other
Sold as property to many dismay

Freedom often meant death
Many of their stories untold
They still remained proud people
Their bodies strong and bold

They would sing songs in the fields
Of their many tribulations
Their prayers went up to a God
That changed the visions of a nation

Precious

Precious

Our special dogs' name is Precious
She is very playful and funny too
The kids really enjoy her antics
Let me tell you about a few

My daughter Chaunte sat on the sofa
Eating a sandwich this particular day
When Precious jumped on the end table
Ran on the sofa and took Chauntes' sandwich away

My son Marcus is somewhat disabled
And Precious takes advantage of him I dread
He left a sandwich on the computer table
Precious ate the meat but left him the bread

When at the dinner table Precious had no favorites
She got under the table hoping for food to fall
She went from child to child for handouts
She'd get so full she couldn't come when you call

Poor Marcus would take Precious outside for exercise
But when he wanted her to come back in
She'd look at him and just continue to run around
If he tried to catch her she knew she would win

Oh Lordy Me

You know when you get my age nothing seems to go right
The first problem I had I thought I was losing my sight
I saw this girl she looked as pretty as can be
Then when she got up close I said "OH LORDY ME"

Then I started having problems with my right hand
A knot came up on the back of it and the pain oh man
It seems like it started going to sleep on me
I'd shake it and I'd rub it then I said "OH LORDY ME"

The next thing that happened was the pain in my hip
I took so much medicine I stayed on a psychodelic trip
The pain seemed to go down to my back and my knee
I'd just grit my teeth and say "OH LORDY ME"

Then of all things my knee went out on me
It was weak and bowed like a branch on a tree
I couldn't stand or walk it just went limp you see
OH MY, OH MY, I said "OH LORDY ME"

Now I'm afraid to even get out of bed
I know these problems are getting to my head
I might as well roll over and play dead you see
Nothing is working right anymore "OH LORDY ME"

A Rose

Today I picked a single Red Rose
with overpowering beauty, warmth, and flare.
The love, joy, and happiness it once represented
is diminished for you are no longer there.

A Rose is given for a joyous and special time
to express the love we have in our heart.
But a Rose is also given after a storm,
to express the loneliness when we're apart

My Rose for you is for your beauty
for your warmth and for your smile.
Because of this single Red Rose,
I'll think of you as I go each mile

Your memories will always bloom in my life
as bold and beautiful as this Rose.
I'll cherish each and every single pebble
so your memories will never close.

Praise the Glory

We're going to praise the glory,
walk in the holy way.
We're going to praise the glory,
do what He say each day.

We're going to praise the glory,
no matter what people say.
We're going to praise the glory,
the glory of the Lord each day.

We're going to praise the glory,
He gives us life each day.
We're going to praise the glory,
whatever trouble comes our way.

We're going to praise the glory,
He gets us through each day.
We're going to praise the glory,
the glory of the Lord each day.
