I Am Nobody

Nobody strives to be a gentleman
Nobody will help teach the youth
Nobody likes virtue and chastity
Nobody cares for the truth
Nobody takes responsibility
Nobody heeds fatherly advice
Nobody refrains from profanity
Nobody refrains from vice
Nobody will stand for the underdog
Nobody will for his brother fight
Nobody believes in God any more
Nobody will die for what’s right
Allow me to introduce myself
Be my dress fine or shoddy
If you haven’t guessed by now
I must be Nobody

Ordinary Hero

An ordinary hero arose today
A friend’s anger was turned away
A child’s heart was lifted up
The thirsty drank from a full cup

An ordinary hero arose today
A child’s hurt was kissed away
A bandaged covered a skinned up knee
A cry was turned to joyful glee

An ordinary hero arose today
Who was that that hero who saved the day?
There is a hero inside us all
Just don’t let your hero drop the ball

Start With One

I ran everywhere under the sun
Trying to get all my tasks done
I planned my day and what I must do
That there was time I truly knew
I worked and I worked by the sweat of my brow
Not one of my tasks got done somehow

So I tried once again the very next day
Listing all my tasks the very same way
I started with this and continued with that
Then all of a sudden I knew not where I was at
I planted part of my garden and trimmed half the tree
Then I remembered I had no priority

The next day began and I planned what to do
What should be first and then number two
My day was finally ready and I did all I began
From beginning to end my race I had ran
With all of our tasks from the first to the last
Little gets done when we go way too fast

Line upon line we all must learn
Step by step our wages we’ll earn
So when at last the day is done
You’ll be much farther if you start at ONE

Happy Mother's Day

Some mothers have children they care for now and here.
Some mothers teach others loving kindness and cheer.
Some mothers have children they yet to meet
With hopes of hearing those pattering feet.
These teach us to love and to laugh and to care.
They teach us to hope and to help and to share.
They heal our pains with one simple kiss
And show us the beauty we had already missed.
For all these reasons and many, many more
We shall thee always and forever adore.

Doing His Will

He died for us on Calvary’s Hill
Fulfilling His Father’s will,
But this was not the whole of his part
To turn to the Father all man’s heart.
It all began with his birth in a cave
But did not end with the life that he gave.
He taught by the life that he had led
Even by the multitudes that He fed.
He rose again on the third day.
The price of death He did pay.
He taught us then and teaches us now
To love each other and to serve how?
With all our heart, strength and mind.
In serving others joy we’ll find.
This Easter season let us do our part
To show we’ve taken His lessons to heart.
Praise Him in word and in deed and in act
And let no one ever forget the fact.
He lived for us and lives for us still
So let us be about doing His will.

The Animal Within

The heart and soul give heed to God above
To our friends and family it gives out love
So why does so much hate abide?
‘Tis when we give in to the animal inside
It has its wants and needs and lustful desires
It wants to maim and kill and set the world on fire
So when you want to be a man not beast?
Do not give heed to its carnal feast
When you are ready to avoid all sin
Just don’t give in to the animal within

Whenever

Whenever I hear songs of love past
Whenever I hear of relationships that forever will last
Whenever I meet a woman with grace and charm
Whenever I see a mother with a child on her arm
Whenever I see a mountain, a river or snow
Whenever I hear a bird or feel the wind blow
Whenever I go to church, to work or a park
Whenever I see a couple hold hands or snuggle in the dark
Whenever these things happen, what else can I do?
When every breath reminds me, I love you.

A New Day Resolution

We begin with a resolution for the New Year
When we fail we give in to the fear
If you are willing to swallow your pride
Here is something others have tried
On this day I resolve to be a better man
On this day I resolve to help where I can
On this day I resolve to read a good book
On this day I resolve to improve how I look
On this day I resolve to control my wealth
On this day I resolve to better my health
On this day I resolve to get more rest
On this day I resolve to be at my best
On this day I resolve to open my mind
To possibilities of a different kind
Why settle for the mundane
Why not reach for the higher plane
Why not join the revolution
And start a new day resolution

My Mother's Son

As I look at the days that are past
At the squandered youth I knew would not last
I think of the lessons taught to my family and me
As we sat and we played at my mother’s knee
She taught of love and beauty and song
And how to serve others all our days long
She cleaned and bandaged and kissed away our hurts
She made us meals and blankets and fixed our shirts
She taught us to cook and clean and to do our part
And to share the lessons with in our heart
To this woman what greater gift can I give?
Than a memorial of the lessons that I can live
And so when all of my days are done
How glad to be known as my mother’s son

My Father's Baby Boy

Through lessons taught more by deed than word
For actions to the heart are more loudly heard
He taught me my mother I must honor and obey
He taught me to find the straight and narrow way.
He taught me that real men can and do cry
He taught me that love would help the heart fly.
He taught me strength and mercy do not contradict
He taught me kind words can end most conflicts
He taught me the power and the grace of dance
He taught me to serve when there’s chance.
He taught me these things and much, much more
And for all this my soul shall surely soar.
At my days end with angels I’ll shout with joy
For I shall also be known as my father’s baby boy
