Poem For Certain Critics - They Know Who They Are, I Think

Ears listening to only their lies,

And their lies speaking only to them,

Trying to be quiet yet still screaming,

Drowning in rants never heard,

So concise but not too clear,

Imprisoned in thoughts of obsession,

Muttering useless ancient literary rules,

In love with yet hating poetic expressions,

Foreign to their limited constrained imaginations,

Trapped behind walls of old thought,

Grasping yet never holding reality,

While visions of punctuation and conformity crowd their tiny unexpanded
minds,

Judging without thinking one step ahead,

Thinking thoughts that kill their judgement,

Still their bodies move forward to nowhere,

Their voices the only sound left to comfort them,

Unaware of love just beneath their windows,

Desolation blinds their desperate micro-management brains,

In pathetic awe of ancient written rules,

Never really meant for ones of their ilk,

For they were penned for poets of consciousness,

Aware their times and rules would surely end,

Were never truly meant for all the centuries,

Suffocating in the dust of a past they never lived,

Afraid of new ideas of written expression,

Created from the minds of what they fear most,

Free thinking writers unafraid of literary change,

And still,

They talk and talk and talk, saying absolutely nothing.

Being built from its foundation into tower scraping sky.
It can fly like no other bird to places never seen,
Even spaceships can only dream of taking its place."

About My Father - Albin - Who Has Passed Away - So Proud of You Dad - Greatest Labor Leader Ever

The following is about my beloved father Albin J. Gruhn who passed away at the age of 94 years young. I Love You Dad and I am missing you so much! Robert

When Albin Gruhn got his card from the loggers union in 1934 after starting work for a Humboldt County lumber company, he never suspected that he was beginning what would become a lifelong career in California's labor movement. He went straight from high school to the lumber mills of Hammond Lumber Co. in Samoa and became a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union. A year later, in 1935, Mr. Gruhn was swept up in a bloody strike over poor working conditions that resulted in the deaths of three union workers.
He spent 36 years as President of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, helping build the organization into a political and social powerhouse in the state.
"Few can match Al Gruhn's devotion to working men and women," said Art Pulaski, labor federation's executive secretary-treasurer. "Driven by his passion for justice in the workplace, Al's career has been an inspiration for all of us. He never backed down from a fight."
He was blacklisted by the lumber companies and joined the Laborers' Union, becoming secretary of the Eureka Federated Trades and Labor Council at the age of 22. In 1940, he was elected district vice president of the state labor federation and took over as the organization's President in 1960. He held that job until his retirement in 1996.
In 1972 he became a founding officer, and ultimately president emeritus, of the Consumer Federation of California.
"Al was a great pioneer of the consumer movement in California," said Jim Gordon, the federation's president. "Al Gruhn always had the interests of consumers and working people in his heart. He built bridges between the consumer movement and our allies in organized labor and in the community."
Mr. Gruhn served on a number of state and local commissions, accepting appointments from Govs. Earl Warren, Goodwin Knight, Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, George Deukmejian and Jerry Brown. He was a member from 1964 to 1971 of the California Constitution Revision Commission.
"The union movement was the cause of his life,"
Mr. Gruhn's son Robert said when his father retired at age 81, speakers at his retirement dinner included the Rev. Jesse Jackson, then-Lt. Gov. Gray Davis and current U.S. Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, who called Mr. Gruhn her "godfather" for his career advice.

To My Old High School Friend - Robin Williams

Oh Robin my friend, I am writing this to you in the present tense not the
past,
because to me you will always be here with us, now, and forever. I do however
want to say a few things about when I first met you back in 1966, we were both
high school kids, in Marin County you were a Redwood High student in Larkspur
and I was a student at Drake High in San Anselmo, our schools had a huge
rivalry between them, and there was one time when some kids from Redwood
came by Drake and wrote "Redwood Rules" in red paint all over our school
buildings, so some kids from Drake snuck over to Redwood and put green dye
in
Redwoods Olympic pool. Well, a bunch of kids from both schools decided to
have a fight, well, you and I were smart and we decided to go downtown with
some other kids from both schools to our favorite pizza place and call a truce,
later some of the kids who were in the fight came in with black eyes and bloody
lips and they were so angry with us that we didn't show up at the fight. I recall
this Robin because you took over with your supreme gift of gab and humor and
completely calmed everyone down. You were absolutely wonderful. You would
have made an awesome U.S. Secretary of State.

In later years, we both went to school at College of Marin. You were a Drama
Student and I saw your immense talent for acting even then. I remember one of
the times I picked you up in my 1963 Galaxie 500, you were hitchhiking, and
you started making all these weird sounds, I asked what's that man, you
proceeded to tell me you were an alien from another planet and went into this
rant that had me laughing so hard I had to pull over to keep from having an
accident! Robin, I consider myself so lucky to have met and known you back
when we were just kids. I know that you are still with us and are probably
reading my words as I write them. My old friend, the world has quite literally
been blessed with your presence, your humor, your brilliant mind. I will not say
I will miss you, because to me you will always be here, but I will say that I
LOVE YOU BROTHER, always and forever! Robert

Boy of Gentleness - Man of Courage - Dedicated On the Passing of My Cousin Johnnie

Dedicated to my dearly loved and departed cousin Johnnie
who passed away peacefully in his sleep. I love you Johnnie.
I hope that now you will watch over all of us here on Earth as you stand now
with God in Heaven, His hand on your shoulder, healed now forever as He embraces you.
I hope that someday I will be able to "walk" with you both in paradise. You were one of the
most beautiful human beings I have ever known. This world has lost one of its mortal angels.
Love, Robert

Boy of Gentleness....Man of Courage:

Just two ways I'll always remember you,

Bravest soldier who never set foot on a battlefield,

Fighting an invisible enemy still not yet conquered,

For 46 years battling that black knight called Muscular Dystrophy,

No more worthy opponent has that enemy ever met than you,

Displaying courage far beyond many human's comprehension,

Suffering unspeakable wounds from within that racked and withered your body,

Still, you smiled bravely through it all,

From crutches as a child to wheelchair as teen,

With each and every setback you never surrendered,

Loving life and understanding its true value more than most,

You watched without bitterness as other children ran and played,

Always ready to share your toys generously with a smile on your face,

That giving part of you never changed,

Even into the years of your adult life,

My cousin and wonderful friend you are my hero,

You mastered bravery beyond the call of living,

And let's not forget your greatest ally of all,

Your best buddy throughout all the years of your life,

Your beloved mother Mary,

She was right beside you through every battle,

While you both fought against the cruelest of enemies,

One that bore no remorse or pity for its defenseless victims,

Aunt Mary is a saint in my mind and another hero,

The word devotion could have been invented describing her,

Johnnie, I'm sure you are smiling and nodding from Heaven in agreement,

She is the personification of what a loving mother truly is,

Always telling everyone that her greatest wish was to live just one more day than you,

She kept that promise never to leave you behind on Earth without her,

Johnnie, I started out writing this to be a poem in my usual style to honor you,

Well, it turned out a little differently so I hope you don't mind,

This is just what came out of my mind for now,

Heck, it won't be that long before we see each other again.

I will always miss you while still on Earth, I LOVE YOU!!!!

Like Sea Sick Sailors

Rowing from sunken hell
Back to forgotten lands
Legs unready for earth
Slamming genius poetic art

So go tiny minds
Lost in central thought
Unaware of truth's reality
Making love to mirror

A Walk Through a Misty Forest

Come walk with me through God's country
Leaves crackling beneath our feet
Nary a breeze
Just a soft touch of dew against our cheeks

Many trails for us to choose
Still....no matter which one we do
I'm sure any should lead to beauty
Now traveling down our chosen path

Realizing this is a different world
From whence we came
Free of city sounds
So quiet....except for nature's songs

A chattering squirrel scampering up a tree
The eagle
Her wings lifting her from lofty redwood perch
Free to soar above this glorious canopy of life

Then as we round a bend in our journey
A babbling brook so sweetly clear
Quenches a mother deer
Her baby fawn by her side

What lovely peaceful creatures
Oh what lessons we could learn from them
Looking skyward to the tops of these majestic trees
So lucky we are

To stand among them
These living breathing towers
Many over 2,000 years in growth
Magnificent monuments to nature

Already saplings before Jesus Christ's birth
He came here then to save us all
Would it not make sense to save these great trees
These living reminders of the gift of our creation

Hamas Terrorist Bastards, Telling Women and Children To Stay In Buildings To Be Bombed

There is no truce for Hamas, these terrorist murderers not only kill Israelis,
but allow their Palestine citizens, men, women, and completely innocent
children to be slaughtered as shields for their insane and cowardly cause, I hope
they (HAMAS) and other terrorist groups are all blown to HELL! Then maybe we
can finally end WAR!

A Message From Heaven

Where every answer looks so wisely upon us all.
Time there being a matter of no importance,
Where love reigns supreme over mortal ignorance,
As eyes shed only tears of joy in its presence.

Walking always in light that knows no darkness,
Where angels lead the way to eternal happiness.
Standing forever at the side of our Lord,
Where sorrow will never exist again.

Yet how do I know all this is true?
Because my sweet Rebecca has told me so.
For her voice was like no other,
This woman I adore who never lied to me.

Always having held me in the comfort of her truth,
As she does now and will throughout infinity.
My lovely angel with whom God blessed this humbled mortal,
There waiting with Jesus to welcome me home.
