I Knew It Was Christmas

I knew it was coming up to Christmas when Mom started to stress
About the lack of money and if she could get us all a new dress
I knew it was Christmas Eve when we left Father Christmas a drink & mince pie
& when we went to bed we were told not to peep, but we always risked one eye
I knew it was Christmas morning when we rushed down to find presents, but not too many
There was usually a doll , a football, tin of toffees, an orange and a bright shiny new penny
I knew it was Christmas breakfast because it was the only time we had a full English
That crispy bacon, fatty sausage and runny egg, wow what complete bliss
I knew it was Christmas afternoon because Nan got her Advacaat out
Top of the Pops on so loud, “turn that racket down” Grandad would shout
I knew it was Christmas Evening as the relatives would all come for a party
Packed into our tiny home would be cousins, Uncles and Aunties
I knew it was Christmas Party in full swing, as Uncle got out his trumpet
And started to murder songs by Acker Bilk and his hero Herb Alpert,
I knew it was going to get interesting when the men all went into the kitchen to open the 7 pint beer barrel
& the older generation insisted we all sang Carol after Carol
Then Mom and Auntie would get out their bottles of sherry
Auntie’s wig would slip further down her forehead, as she got more & more merry
Eventually my husband came into our lovely family clan
& every year I knew it was time to call it a night when
He was always the first to “pass out” on the floor
Family would have to climb over him to get to the front door
I knew it was Boxing Day when Nan reached for the Bigmag because of her over indulgence
& the other grown-ups were holding their heads because of their festive involvement
Nowadays Father Christmas has lost a little of his charm & has changed into “Santa”
Who children think can bring toys galore, the price tag doesn’t seem to matter
Kids don’t think of it as a religious celebration, only of what presents they got
It’s such a shame the true meaning of the festive season seems to be lost

Right By Your Side

When your fragile footsteps feel like they are in sinking sand
And you’re forever searching for that helping hand
When the heavy load sometimes feels too much to bear
Just think of me, and I will be there
When the smile on your face is just a mask
Send up a thought, don’t be afraid to ask
When you feel so alone, even in a large crowd
Just remember me fondly, and I will be around
When you think I have gone and way out of sight
I will be right by your side bestowing love and light

A Stranger Came To Stay

A stranger came to stay today, it took me by surprise,
A stranger came to stay today, I could see it in her eyes,
Yes she looked like my Nan, the one I’d loved for years,
Yes, she was the same Nan who had wiped away my tears.
But I knew a stranger came stay today, & she had no plans to go away.

On a good day I’d feel elated that she had remembered my name
Then on the bad days, we’d have to play this important little game
Whereby she’d only talk to me if I pretended to be Scottish Maggie MacPherson
I wonder Grandad, if in her younger days, she’d actually known this person?

Although you’d gone to spirit long before Nan became so ill
She spoke to you every day, thinking you were in her life, still
She got very angry when she thought you were late home from work
And demanded every day that my Mom was to wash & starch your shirts

Mom was at a loss to know how to cope with Nan’s constant mood swings
Your prim & proper sweetheart would swear like a trooper & throw things
Nan’s eyes would glaze over and Mom knew she’d be in for another episode
Whereby this stranger that came to stay, would just lash out & explode

Heart breaking to see the collapse my beautiful intelligent well-loved Nan
We knew this illness was not her fault & to hurt Mom was never her plan
Doing everything to make her comfortable and happy was all we could do
Until it was her time to make her journey home to spirit and to YOU

One day the stranger who came to stay, knew she was moving on to a better place
She was different & we could see a serenity & peacefulness envelope her face
Her death was very upsetting, but her release was a joyous occasion too
As it was the day her mind was set free & she could rest in the arms of you

Dream State

Last night as I lay my head to rest and quickly fell to sleep
I was amazed and delighted that in my slumber, my Mom I did meet
She looked so young and healthy, her wheelchair not in sight
I blinked once and then again, trying not to cry, with all my might

“Hello Babe” she said, in that wonderful caring voice I’d long since forgot
“I’m here to help with your plight, well I will give it my best shot”
I know you are in a quandary, not knowing which way to go
Me and your loved ones up here, the right pathway we will show
Go now, be strong and, shine like the beautiful star I know you are
You will get what you have asked for and you will go far”

I kissed her gently & bid her farewell & out of sleep I drifted
I woke up feeling refreshed and so wonderfully uplifted
Was it just a dream, it seemed so real, so I have got to accept it
It was my Mom getting in touch whilst I was at my most receptive

A Heart Full of Love

Some people only strive for unlimited wealth
They think of achieving this and nothing else
The new “must have” item is all they seek
The future for them looks so bleak
Their so called good life consists of materialistic things
They don’t know the true meaning of what love can bring
We know that love opens up a whole new good life
It eases pain and helps us cope with many a strife
The good life begins with simple good health
There is nothing more precious than this single wealth
Surround yourself with those that love you dearly
Look for things that really matter & you’ll see more clearly
Money won’t help in times of sorrow, Love will get you through
It will help you to handle all that life has to throw at you
We won’t have our worldly possessions with us when we arrive up above
But we can arrive complete with kindness, compassion and a heart full of Love.

My Guardian Angel

My life was so black, full of dark clouds & rain
As a result my heart was empty, tormented by pain
I was lost and lonely and so very confused
Felt loved by no-one, just constantly used
Then a turning point happened, was it by chance?
A beautiful winged Angel, a quick fleeting glance
I shook my head, blinked and looked again
Beguiled by her magic, I was no longer in pain
I asked her name and why she cared so much
She just smiled and gave a smooth gentle touch
My Guardian Angel came when I was so low
Care, concern and compassion she did bestow
Now I no longer feel such anguish and pain
I am able to start living my wonderful life again

A Visit From Spirit

Trust in the Spirit World, they will never let you down,
Have faith that when you need them, they will always be around,
You may not always see them, or feel them to be there,
But they are watching over you, surrounding you with care,
When you have a troubled mind or you're engulfed in pain,
You will feel a calming presence, one you cannot immediately explain,
It will be so gentle and beautifully serene, you will sense it to be right,
This will be Spirit drawing closer, encasing you in love and light,
They will have your best interests at heart so let them do their best,
If they think it appropriate, they may even make you rest,
If you need healing, the healers will be around you doing their "stuff"
Spirit have an amazing knack of knowing when you've had enough,
Without any prior knowledge, they may put you on your back,
Only letting up when you are rested and firmly back on track,
So remember next time you need upliftment or just a friendly visit,
Make yourself open to receive a well deserved boost from Spirit.

Our Love Song

Have I told you yet today that you mean the world to me & I love you so much
Have I declared that my heart skips a beat at the thought of your touch
Have I stated the happiness you bring to all the family & especially to me
Have I mentioned close by your side is where I always want to be
Well in case I haven’t said this, I just want you to know
You are the best thing that’s happened to me and I love you so
You reside deep in my heart, you are my reason to be
I am the luckiest girl alive, as you feel the same about me

Did I tell you yesterday that your smile can light up my darkest day
Or that I drown in your dark brown eyes when they sparkle that way
Did I remember to say thank you for being you & for loving me
Nestled in your big strong arms, is the place I am meant to be
Did I think to mention that I as you sleep, I gently kiss your forehead
I pray to God each night to keep you safe, as we slumber in our bed
You reside deep in my heart, you are my reason to be
I am the luckiest girl alive, as you feel the same about me

I’ll remember to tell you tomorrow that I will always feel the same
& that if you feel deep sorrow, I too will feel that unbearable pain
I’ll remember to show you each & every day just how much I care
From now until eternity , with you, my love I’ll gladly share
If I forget to say I love you, it will still be embedded on my heart
I know for all of our many tomorrows that we will never part
You reside deep in my heart, you are my reason to be
I am the luckiest girl alive, as you feel the same about me
