We Can Overcome Our Past

We can overcome our past

God is greater than our hearts
And love is stronger than death
We were treated as insignificant and made to feel small
But before we could walk, we had to learn to crawl

God is greater than our hearts
And love is stronger than death
Our personal fears, He helped us change and overcome
Turning our weaknesses into strengths, the past undone

God is greater than our hearts
And love is stronger than death
Through His eyes we learned all the possibilities to see
Be our own best friend, love ourselves and our potential be

Sand and Stone

All my real and exaggerated infractions
Over the years you meticulously engraved in stone
But your moral indiscretions against my soul
I recklessly and occasionally scribbled in the sand
The storms we weathered in our years of marriage
Kept erasing all your faults without a trace
But mine became more distinctly etched with time
Until there was no forgiveness left

Wounded Warrior

Brave Warrior
With me you can set your armor aside
For I have proven worthy, I am bona fide
Our painful past, together we’ll conquer and divide
We’ll bury the bottles filled with all the tears that we’ve cried

 Wounded Warrior
Please put down your sword and shield
Expose to me all your scars and heart concealed
I’ll hold sacred and accord dignity to all that you revealed
Hand in hand, we’ll do what it takes to be completely healed

 Protective Warrior
Rest your weary tortured body next to mine
I will nurture you and love you if you feel so inclined
Safe in my arms, you’ll experience the peace for us designed
Together we’ll make our own world and what love is we will redefine

Trust Me

Trust me

I’m asking you, “Please give your heart to me
And I will treasure it as long as I live, I guarantee
Trust me with your gentle soul
Together we’ll work on becoming whole

Take my hand in yours and trust me with your life
learn to trust me as I had to learn to trust you with mine
Love me freely without fear, without reserve
Your heart won’t be shattered, your dignity preserved

I give you my word, loyal and faithful I’ll always be
I won’t look anywhere else for love and ecstasy
I am and will always be your friend first, loyal and true
My actions have proven that constantly to you

So I am asking you, Sweetheart, give your heart to me
Because my love is strong even when we argue and disagree
Let my love bring out the man inside that inspires this in me
Trust me to love you the way you do completely and exclusively

From Despair To Hope

I kept waiting to be saved somehow by You
Fervently praying for this gut-wrenching pain to end
My screams and pleas seem to fall on deaf ears
But I didn't realize You were intently listening then

Fear had enveloped me like the darkest night
There was no moon, nor starry lights
Despair and loneliness was all I could see
This pitiable soul was a stranger even to me

The glimmer of hope I once held so dear
Evaporating like morning mist, just disappeared
A shell of a person was left behind in its wake
Completely withdrawn, numb for preservation sake

But something inside of me still wanted to feel
I wanted to experience the warmth of the hope You give
So I made the decision not to give up but to fight instead
I chose to trust You, forgive him, and learn again to live

Your Choice

When you pull away from me
I get scared and I want to stop you
When you go away from me
I feel sad and like we’re through

I know I have to let you fly
I know you need your space to be a man
I know that without you I will not die
I know I must go inside and make other plans

I miss you and the look upon your face
I miss your laughter and your voice
Your smell disappears without a trace
If you come back to me, it’s still your choice
