A Beautiful Monday

It was early this morning when I went outside.
A busy back yard opened my ears & eyes wide...
Mockingbirds mocking, chasing each other around,
as my 4 squirrels munched from their sunflower seed tray
I leave on the ground...
There were Gold Finch eating thistle,
and Chickadees eattin' cracked corn while they whistled...
House Finch eating feed that had spilt to the ground,
while a Sparrow simply enjoyed fresh bugs
on the Camilia as they walked around...
A Titmouse plays its tune while it eats
(Sunflower seed hearts are it's "Preferred" Morning treats}
Then a Jay squacked its tune as he picked up a peanut
from my grandpa's feeder dish,
thinking, "Where can I bury these, that I surely won't miss?"
7 or 8 times the Jay sounded that he was back,
(And each time our cat "Pudd" mewed from underneath ready to attack)...
Then a surprise of a Woodpecker with its repetitive little tap,
I wonder if it's eating bugs that are stuck in the fence wood sap?
Welp, my wildlife may be spoiled, that might surely be
Why even the hummer is quenching his thirst on two different
flavored Fushcia's hanging right above me....
But with sunny skies and highs of 70 for the weather,
could an early morning "Monday" be any better?

My Nana

My Nana is special
My Nana's so nice
When it comes to sewing,
she doesn't think twice
She's a wizard with a needle
she could sew the night away
Crochet you a blanket and have it
warming your lap almost the very next day...

She's a non-stop amazement of talent
Her creations are more than a simple hobby,
their a genius work of art!
Give her an idea for Cross-stitch
and she can hardly wait to start...

She has a passion for patterns
Every stitch is made with love
She'll whip yha out a pot-hold and embroider it
with a Dove...

Tell her the colors you like and she'll start blending
spools of thread
Before you can finish the verse to:
Supercalafradulistic...you'll have a beautiful new spread upon you bed...

With wall hangings, ornament and dishtowels too,
there's nothing at a fabric store that she can't make for you...

So here's 3 cheers for my Nana and a Hip! Hip! Hurray!!
Just wanted you to know that I was thinkin' of you today!

A New Mouse

Today I bought a new mouse
This mouse now has a house...
It sits on a happy face
It's quite the perfect place...
The happy face is its pad
(I wouldn't have one that was sad)...
My mouse doesn't walk around
Nor eats cheese that's fallen on the ground
It doesn't squeak or shout
Just clicks and moves about...
It doesn't have much to say
and it doesn't really play...
Though it does enjoy its ball
as it rolls around, only 1 inch tall...
It will follow a command
with the gentle guide of my hand...
It does what it's told
pretty good for only 1 day old...
It has no whiskers nor a tail
but it sits close while I check my mail...
And though its owner needs a tutor
this new mouse is plugged into her new computer!

Butterflies, Butterflies

Butterflies, butterflies
fly to me
Butterflies, bettterflies
I have many flowers for thee

I smile at your beauty
when you flutter about
Though I'm told you smell
with your feet?
Hey, what's that all about?

My garden is so happy
Your visits in the Springtime are the very best
Why even my Ladybugs love you
(They sure put my Aphids to the test)

Your wings are an artful design of colors
though frail at the lightest touch
and I wish your life span was longer
because I just enjoy you all so much

I don't have a favorite species
One of each would surely do
So the next time your in the area
please remember my garden
It will be full of flowering nectar that's just waiting all for you

Awoken Again

I was awoken this morning at a half past three,
from a startling sound of a high octave C
I heard an F and a G,
or was that a staccato E?
Whatever note it was, it was disrupting me.
Then a D sharp and a lower octave B
"Oh my God, the tune is torturing me."
Then Hark! A smile of silence and I knew I'd be O.K.
But while dozing off to sleepy land I was jolted with an A.

"This is NOT o.k. I tell you,
to wake me up like this from my rest.
This bleeding eared tune I'm hearing now is putting me to the test!"

So I get up to see what's the matter,
as the cat jumps from the piano down to the floor.
And smugly grinned and said, "What? A mew would have been to
simple just to have you come open up the door."

New Curtains

There's a rip in the curtain,
that I do see...
It you look really close, you'll
probably see three...
The curtains are old,
the material is tired...
if I had more money
I'd fer sure go wild...
With fabric of style
to blend with the colors of the carpet pile..
Maybe tie-backs in wild
of a cat print I see...
So much creativity to let loose in me...

One day I will have new curtains.

Things To Do When Yer Hands Are Feeling Blue

It needs no practice
Hardly any thought at all
Just hold your hand in front of you and let
your middle finger plus one towards your pinky fall.

A universal sign
not just for the deaf one but for all
So the next time your hands are feeling blue and left out
Have it sign the I Love You call

Rhyming Girl

I'm a rhyming girl
It's what I'm all about
If you read my other poems
you'll surely have no doubt

Like The Cat In The Hat
I am what I am
But you can bet for certain
my name's not Sam

While I'm lying in my bed
the rhymes keep popping
in my head

While I'm working or just about,
the rhymes keep flowing,
they make me want to shout,
"I'm a rhyming girl
it's what I'm all about
if you read my other poems,
you'll surely have no doubt."
