The Last Kiss

She walked through the woods
 remembering his face
ashen and grey against the pillow.
He had been taken by
the sweeping sickness
that had engulfed her land
taken so swiftly
that she had not
had time to reach him.

The pain of her loss
had been unbearable
and she had roamed the house
striking out
in rage and grief
at anyone who came close.
The madness had left her eventually,
left her alone
bereft of her love.

That was many years ago now,
but still his face haunted her,
his eyes accusing
filled with
the horror of her absence
the terror
that he must face alone
the time of his death.

It never left her, this guilt she carried.
Many had consoled her, told her that she
was not blame, that it was not her fault.
She knew better, she remembered telling him one dreadful
storm filled night, that she would always be there.

She shook her head free of the memories,
she was old now and it was so long ago,
she would be welcomed when she left this earth.
Absolved of this guilt that had consumed her life.

She saw the tree as she entered the clearing.
His treee, his favorite place.
Whenever he was troubled or scared
she would find him there, curled up beneath the boughs.
It was his haven, his place of safe keeping.

Glancing around she felt again,as she always did
his presence near to her, tantalisingly close.
She walked to the tree and sat down,
resting her back against the trunk,
letting the sunlight warm her face.

Slowly as she sat there, eyes closed and silent.
He came to her as if in a dream,
or perhaps she was dreaming, she did not know
or care, she only knew he was before her,
that her love was with her once more .

Tears streamed from her eyes and her throat burned
as he touched her face, stroked her hair.
A smile touching his lips as he gazed into her eyes.
Slowly he knelt before her and lay back,
resting his head on her lap.

Happiness swept through her like fire,
he was forgiving her, letting her know
that it was not her fault that he had died alone.
Her hand traced the features she loved more than life
and her lips met his in an endless kiss.

The night was dark when the villagers found her.
She was sitting in a clearing, lying next to a tree.
The moonlight illuminated her in its silvery rays
and in its bathing light they saw what they had
not seen in decades. She was smiling, in death
she was smiling.

Loyal Heart

the look in your eyes as you walk toward me
the way you quicken your pace as our eyes meet
it matters not
that I have forgotten the time
You forget I am late...

Your Words

our words are born, not spoken.
Dimensional, soft voweled words,
palpable to the eye or to the fingertip ...
exquisitely curved, as the young that wildflowers conceive.

Often I have watched your lips shape words
and your tongue nudge them out like small birds
not certain of their wings.
Your sweetest words
are those shaped ovally
like plums or wild birds' eggs.
The long bright ribbons you laugh
the multitudes of hyacinth and bluebells.

When I see words like soft gray catkins I know
they are of romance whatever else my ears register.
Your mouth is like the flesh of a ripe fig,
I often want to take your words unsaid.
The brown honey-bear slips his red tongue into
the nest of sleeping bees.
Slurping out the honey as they sleep.
The sweet natural taste.
The pussy-willow feel of your words
is lovelier than their shape or music.

Lioness Dreams

Young sweet lion,
taut,
the forbidden jungle rythm
forcing your walk.
Now I long to have you at my side,
sleek , proud.
Wild beast of paridise,
lean, hungry,
you stalk the outer edges
of my dreams.
Bidding me enter your domain,
daring me to cross the fringe
of territorial balance.
Taunting me with the promise
your tawny body holds.
How I long to run at your side,
free...
free in the night storms,
free in my dreams,
free...

My Love of You

As I think of you I am swept away to my
imagination...
You come to me in all my dreams...
Holding me , touching , making me yours.
You have hands of steel I melt at your touch.
As you take me in your arms I feel as if my breath has forsaken me.
My heart races as you put your arms around me, holding me so very close.
I tremble as you touch my hair,
As your hands touch my back sending shivers down my spine.
Our lips meet in anticipation of the passion we hold.
You are tasting my lips as I taste yours,
simple bliss from which the boundaries take us to a height of pleasure.
As I run my fingers through your hair and down the back of your neck,
you shiver as well.
The love I have for you pouring into you as I kiss you passionately.
Wanting you as no other,
Take me ,
for I am yours...
You may never know my touch
or my softness,
but you will have my heart and soul forever....
I am yours...
Completely...

We Have Seen

We have seen the mountains grow
from the hills,
and the trees from the ground
reaching for the sky.
We have felt the years go on
only to grow old and fall.
With my brothers and sisters
that is also the same.
We have seen many a moon
our time has come.
Searching the heavens for a sign.
When will we go to the great spirit?

Reaching into the ether
we grab for our ancestors.
Hoping they will take our hand

guiding us into the heavens.

Rekindling our ties
to mothers and fathers.
Meeting our ancestors
who went before us.
Greeting our loved ones
who come after us.

Oh, great spirit guide me.
I want to go home.
Take me into your arms.
Shield me from pain and sorrow,
take me to the hunting grounds
of my people.

Broken Shells

Frigid wind whispers your name
as I walk along the sand beach.
Waves rush to meet me
as I wish you would.
Sea spray touches my lips
as I taste the salt of my tears.
Distant gulls call
thundering roar of the water calling to me
As I walk to the edge
I turn to search for you.
Empty and forlorn is my life.
Meaning...gone.
Loneliness my shadow
as night is my enemy.
Robbing me of sleep
bringing sad moments to mind.
Broken shells on the sand
as your promise of love.
They chip away with time.
Tides bearing me along.
I walk...
icy water numbs my flesh
enveloping my soul as I am free...

Mmm My Dream

By Athena C. Beauchamp
I must say...
You invade the frigid wastelands of my dreams,
violating the seclusion of my sleep.
I welcome this invasion of my world,
as I welcome the strong refuge of your arms.
Somehow I knew that tonight you would come
for I have scented myself
with essence.
Draped my body in a silken gown,
now I wait your lingering caress.
My lips whisper your name
you come to me...
Dimming my senses
with the sweet opium of your kiss.
I open my self to you
you enter my very being,
together we dance
to the pagan love song,
choreographed by our desire
Performed upon the stages of our passion.

How Dare You

How dare you judge me.
What is right and what is better for me?
I am a grown woman.
I can make decisions myself you know...
I do know I want
what I want and what is good or bad for me.

I do want you,
I think you will be good for me and you know what?
I will be good for you.
Stop being scared and running away from what you want.
This has nothing to do with me,
this is just you being afraid, now stop it !

Oh and as for the idiotic remark about
not wanting to hurt me.....
Mmmmm the man I love tells me he is leaving me,
will not talk to me,
and that is NOT TRYING TO HURT ME?

Do you want to hurt me?
I hate to think what you would say
if you do want to hurt me.

Never Thought

By Athena C. Beauchamp

I never thought we would drift apart.
I thought we loved each other.
I feel so empty.
The love and affection
we shared
gone...
Like the leaves in the fall.

All I ever wanted was to be loved.
Unconditionally,
just truly loved...
I do not ask for much.
I just never thought
as I watched you walk away...

My mind is racing with thoughts.
Do I love him?
Does he love me?
My heart is broken
my dreams gone
every inch of hope lost...

I have given all that I have
My heart
My soul
My life.
To you the man I love.

Now it is in the wind
we will see if it comes round again...
