Nsikakabasi Dan Poem
STAINS OF BLOOD
I heard the cries from far away
The sounds of anguish all the way
The tears had flowed like Tsunami floods
A plague has led our land awry
Scenes of passionate rages reigned
Heartbreaks, shots of depression rained
Like an abattoir filled with bones and blood
Our lands became awash with blood
Heartless hands that maimed our men
Have struck our land with darts at will
With gruesome tact their tasks were done
The task to slay our men away
We saw our warriors staggered and fell
With bloodied limbs and heads and being
We saw our kindreds breathe their last
And could not awake to our calls and groans
Can you hear the helpless orphan’s howl
Their mothers struck with shock untold
As their losses, pains and grief unfold
Oh, who shall mend their hearts apiece!
…Dedicated to the many lives who have been devoured by sectarian terrorist attacks in my nation… and beyond…

Nsikakabasi Dan Poem
The thorns,oh man may spike thy side
In the shrubs and farms in the field of life
Thy wounds may bleed like the drips of rain
As if thy strength be poured and drained
Thy neighbour of ages or friend indeed
Might never for real comprehend thy need
Or the seeds that bang at the core of thy pains
As they see thy weary leaves and seeds
Thy wounds, oh man, may be dry by day
As you grin and pose like a model bright
Thy tears of life from men you may hide
But at night you bear thy tears and fears
Arise , oh brothers, great or small
Thy fights and tears are well renown
Be strong my lovely sisters sweet
For thy will can wheel thy ship ashore
Arise and take thy ship ashore
From the wrecks and dirts shall come thy reign
Resolve to be strong by day and by night
And soon thy tears shall cease like the rain
So recall there comes a ray of light
Beyond the storms you see at sea
Be strong for thy storms shall soon be ceased
And a beam of light shall soon be seen
So, take thy colours bold and red
And thy head be straight ahead again
For great is the man that wills to win
And be ready to arise and bloom again

Nsikakabasi Dan Poem
FAREWELL MANDELA
F-From All around the lands on high
A-Around the mounts and down the depths
R-Resound the cries of loss untold
E-Even the birds our lots have known
W-We’ve lost a man that was great and bold
E-Embedded in him was a heart of gold
L-Like a child he’d forgive his offenders deeds
L-Leaving a legacy great indeed
M-Mandela, our leader of great repute
A-A man that would quail a great dispute
N-Never a soldier but wins a war
D-Dignity, tenacity, and honor he wore
E-Endearing to a nation and the world as a whole
L-Lo, we’ve missed our man indeed
A-And may his soul depart and rest in peace
…Adieu, Mandela!, our Leader Great!

Nsikakabasi Dan Poem
SAY IT’S A DREAM
The cloud had wrapped herself around
And like a shield it engulfed my life and being
With gloom & anguish, pains and aches
Wretched and weakened, drained of strength
Gossiped by friends and foes alike
Like a plague they hid and kept from me
Lonely, angry, desolate and lost
Maimed by illness like a palsied imp
The hands that once would rise in cheer
Are now retarded, stuck in chair
The voice that roared and earned respect
Is now disguised by groans unclear
Would there be an end to the pains I feel
When the eyes are closed would it bring an end
For beneath the flesh that once were fresh
Reside the flames that burn afresh
Please say it’s a dream I need to awake
That the pains I feel are feigned and unreal
That the morn shall bring a ray of relief
And the heart shall be eased of the pains and relieved.
