David Von Rudisill Poem
Rusted blood, a shot-put heft
Is shot from chamber's side
What treasure stores are in my chest?
What stores can heart-valves hide?

David Von Rudisill Poem
A tornado siren screams from souls
Killed in last night’s storm
In a horn on top a pole
Scream souls of those we mourn
The spirits give no trumpet’s test
Nor kind compassioned words
A graveyard will be dug and filled, lest
The spirit’s cries are heard
Listen! Through the roar
Of trains run off their rails
Through the rip, that lightning tore
And the crash of brimstone hail
Hear the message that winds brought nigh!
A message stern and true
Hear the spirits loudly cry:
What befell us, now befalls you!

David Von Rudisill Poem
They drudge among the living
But count among the dead
Their youthful labor stolen
A universal dread
In stasis, they squander years
In shock, we view their pain
Hostility - A witness to
Their efforts done in vain

David Von Rudisill Poem
Life has come from no scriptwriter’s lot,
Nor from any grand design
Living things, from dead Matter wrought,
The sole eternal, Time
By millennia of thoughtless toil,
By lost, imperfect forms,
Mankind has found the splendid Earth
So presently adorned
The legion that has lived, and perished
Since this fertile sphere began
Have given rise through strife and death
To the phenomena of man
Who labors a strange and brutish life
And in futility dissolves
While the Earth, round the hellish Sun
Ceaselessly revolves
O, how ignorant is this view of Being
In this vision we scarcely see
In what crevasse crept the silent hand
Of Divinity

David Von Rudisill Poem
Religion is melting humanity’s wit
As a wildfire burning brains
A fire set by a madman, long ago lit
Scorching the stupid, the weak and insane
Infant minds, the flames pummel and lash
They suffocate men from their birth
Doctrines’ smoke, polluted with ash
Has confused and clouded this Earth
A forest flash, a hellfire crash
Is salvation’s light and sound?
Sparks ablaze from dogma’s clash
Is consuming fire found?
Raze it not, protect this ground
With a sterling sire’s might
Nurture saplings, grow this mound
With amaranthine light
Bring not this fertile forest round
To a long inferno night
But with a wick, and wax as bounds
Give your candlelight

David Von Rudisill Poem
Fate, you seamstress old witch
Garments of life measured with line
The misery of men, a fabric been stitched
By your roughshod, wicked designs
Buttons missed, or threading used frayed
Throws muscular waste and decay
The world, steeped in suffering has paid
With the dystrophied lives you betray
Impoverished styles you’ve miserly made
While the hungry painfully wails
Cut-corner fashions are endlessly weighed
On your crooked, treacherous scales
Celestial shop, contains all the cloth
All the ribbons, the bows and the bands
Yet beautiful clothes, are put-off with sloth?
Or lie idle in withering hands?
No orders come in, tailored and chopped
For a dress spangle entrenched?
And what of the suit, with sleeves to be lopped
That for months sat on your bench?
Your life shall be hemmed, in a straightjacket locked
And laced with poisonous snakes
By a white coat I’ve mended, with pockets I cropped
And cut to your sickening tastes!

David Von Rudisill Poem
Atheism is a kind of drowning
Gasping Hope, as gasping air
The breath I took was not of brine
But a breath of full Despair
A vessel, knowing no rust, nor wreck
Appears – from timeless Beyond
A Captain extends His hand – and shouts:
Come on! Come on!
Will you take the Captain’s hand?
And leave this storm-tossed sea?
Will you board His sterling craft?
To sail beautifully?
Or – will you cast away salvation’s hand
As the demons of horn-filled hell
And sink unto the darkened pit
Where the Tempter dwells?

David Von Rudisill Poem
An effect without a cause
A bolting into being
Is anathema to reason
A delirium or dream
Proximate – and ultimate
Phenomena exclaim
There is one rule inviolate -
Determinism reigns
The implication staggers -
Our will constrained, unfree
Yet if this be so
How can reason be?

David Von Rudisill Poem
A malady of the mind
Dominates the will
As the surging river
Overruns the mill
Omnipotent craving
The bullpen cannot hold
A temptation unremitting
Annulling principle
No affection or reason
Or threat of penalty
Can possibly deter - or -
Potentiate the will

David Von Rudisill Poem
O! Garnet star, what hydra-like,
Immortality
How humanity doth envy,
Thou vitality
What sayest thou of Man?
(Surely he would say)
O - but lowly Mayfly,
That flutter for a day
What thinkest thou of Time?
(Surely he would think)
A torrent inexhaustible,
I forever drink
Lo, but I know a thing,
Surpassing thou by far:
Eternal life in Christ,
Outlives thou, garnet star!
