I Want To Sing Too

I can’t sing
I mean I can’t sing
I’ll leave the singing to Walt.
But I assume, as he assumes, as you assume, as all assume,
I love like you, love like him, love like the Lord above,
What is there? Singing? Why can’t I sing too?

Every cell and feeling that exudes from me,
Leaves an impression that I’m proud for all to see.
Every smile and gesture makes me a man,
It doesn’t always fit into my plan,
But I think the trepidation is waning,
The insecurity finally is straining.
All this time I’ve wanted to sing,
But it’s always been my failing.

I can’t sing
I mean I can’t sing
No that’s not true.
Something is different.
I no longer assume, I assure.
I don’t wander, I wonder.
I can’t fear, I fight.
I don’t love, I love YOU.

I haven’t sung because of others.
But these others are sisters and brothers.
Sometimes my voice might crack,
The beauty I may lack.
But YOU have opened my mind,
All this time I’ve been behind.
YOU have opened my eyes.
I’ve seen the pretty skies.
YOU have opened my heart,
And I’m ready to start.
YOU have opened my lung,
And I’ll be heard, and sung.

The Alpha Male

Being a man, what do they see?
I see strength, aggression, power.
How about physical force?
Domination. Pain. Passion. Madness.
What is it they say on TV?
The alpha male...

It's all wrong.

I see passion. I see strength.
But what I see is family, I see love,
Oh I see pain. But only for what's lost,
Not what's inflicted. Being a man
I used to wonder what it meant.

After what they see, they say.
They say "be a man, fight" and
It's true. They say "Don't cry,
Don't be a girl." And it's true.
They say, "I thought I raised a man."
And that. Is. True.

I told you what I see.

How about what I say:
I say "Be a man, fight.
To put food on the table for your family."
I say "Don't cry, don't be a girl
Because your girl needs you
But needs you to cry when you take her as a bride."
I say, "I thought I raised a man
And I did." When my son fights for his family.

Being a man is about loving,
Fighting, directing, surviving,
But most of all, it's about appreciating
A woman.

Hey Cutie

Your sheer arrogance makes me giggle
Your butt does the cutest wiggle
I really hope you like me
I want to call you baby
Or maybe my little piggle.

:)

Acting

My notion at its most masochistic
The crowd, laughs, quite the kick.
I've never enjoyed anything more
The art is my greatest lore.
It's the only life I'd ever pick.

Just Look

She had the world in her eyes yet you could see through
A windowpane leading to a brick wall.
All I wanted was my notions, passions to ring true
Through her voice, lips, lust, despite myself I fall.
I can hear her haunting voice still in my head.
I can feel her fingertips flowing intertwined with mine.
The smell, scent, sadness lingers still in bed.
I could have seen it coming, she gave me a sign.
Yet to have and to hold, she inquired.
Despite myself, I inquired as well;
Nothing held, nothing had is what's transpired.
I can only blame me, too easily I fell.
Yet, here I stand, open-book.
She HAS the world in her eyes, if she'd just look.

A Kiss Under the Mistletoe

She's been gazing, staring, all the night long
I've been scared, sheepish, stupid, and sad
I'm kissing her after the next love song
If my insecurities aren't that bad.

She's so effervescent, she doesn't know
It's not even about the looks, it's deep.
I swear I'm looking into her soul, woah!
Into this mystery I'll glide, don't weep.

Come on Derrick, it's time to rise and shine
Be the man, be the love, be the best, try.
She deserves it, make her smile just divine
Look at the mistletoe, over her, high.

Here I go, no longer holding this back
"Hello, you are beautiful, and you glow.
I know how I sound, I sound like a quack.
But please, one kiss, under the mistletoe."

Superman, Everyman

You are effervescent, scintillating, bliss
Easily the most beautiful woman I've ever been with.
Not your smile or eyes but your energy, I can't miss
I'd love you as a Jedi or a Sith.
Last night was more than I can put into text
But this morning you brought back pain
Pain I haven't felt since before we'd sext.
I thought you'd gone insane.
You said you wanted him. I wasn't enough.
He cheated, yelled, broke you. Hurt you.
I still can't believe you put up with that stuff.
But looking in your eyes I knew it was true.
Last night I was your Superman
Now I am just your everyman.

Touching, Pondering

How did I get here?
Feeling as if I’m insignificant, dreaming of the touch, the taste.
Touch can be a funny thing
As it lends itself to taste, to hearing, to smelling.
Why can’t I touch her?
Why won’t she touch me?
Yet the touch has led me to all of these things
All of these feelings and it forces me to ponder
Please pester people to pound me for wondering, pondering.
Do I love her?
Would she bring me here?
Would I even want her to?
I suppose I can always touch myself,
But that creates no feelings. Touch always can
Always will create feelings. Feel free to feel
But taste, hear, smell, and forget when it’s needed.
